Tue 5th, Day FOUR                     DAY 3....

Twelve out of Sixteen for Egypt!

Let’s make it short. Only in two finals, you won’t find Egyptians. The BU13 & the GU15. That’s it. For the 6 other finals, it’s a “full basket” for Masr!

So let’s start with the bad news, the G15 final will not feature an Egyptian, as Maria Stefanoni and Aifa Azman both beat Egyptian opponents in the semis.

USA's Stefanoni staged a remarkable comeback from two-nil down against top seed Jana Shiha. The Egyptian powered through the first and then saved two game balls to take the second 12-10. Stefanoni fought back to take a close third and with Shiha unsettled by time and coaching warnings took the fourth at a canter. Battle was rejoined in the fifth though with barely a point between them. Shiha had match balls at 10-9 and 12-11, Stefanoni at 11-10 and 13-12, finishing the match to the delight of the large US contingent in the crowd.

Her opponent in the final will be Malaysia's Aifa Azman, the second-seeded U13 champion from 2014. She got the better of last year's U13 runner-up Nouran Yousef in three, racing through the first before getting the better of two close and hotly-contested games.

And in the BU13, Sam Todd, English new Marvel who wish to be “the first English Player to win since James Willstrop”, got the better of the only Egyptian player in the age group, Kareem El Torkeyn 13/11 in the 3rd.

THE SUCCESS

GU13, both finalists Nour Aboulmakarim & Sana Mahmoud lost a game but recovered to win their semis, against Nader & Maliff respectively.

The BU15 final will be contested by the top two seeds, both Egyptian. Mostafa Asal was always in control of his match with Aly Eltokhy, while Omar El Torkey recovered from a game and 0-5 down to beat Moustafa Elserty in four games.

In the U17, complete domination again for Egypt, with Hania Elhamamy who had to come back twice from 0/1 and 1/2 to finally take the 5th comprehensively, 11/3. It was simpler for Rowan Reda, who created the upset by ousting #2 Amina Yousry 3/1.

As for the Boys, another upset with Marwan Tarek, seeded 2 losing out of Mostafa Montaser in a well contested battle, 3/2, while favorite Youssef Ibrahim closed his match 3/1 against Ziad Sakr.

In the GU19 event defending champion Nouran Gohar met club team-mate Mayar Hany, and after pulling clear from 7-all in the first went on to take the match in straight games. England's Gina Kennedy took the lead against Nadine Shahin, but the Egyptian fought back to take the next three games, claiming her first-ever final outing in her last BJO.

The B
U19 final will also be all-Egyptian. Top seed Youssef Soliman took a close first game against England's Kyle Finch, eased through the second and then came from 7-10 down to claim the third 12-10.

As for the other one, in a repeat of last year's BU17 final Saadeldin Abouaish got the better of Eain Yon Ng for the first time in four attempts. The Egyptian took a two-nil lead and although Ng fought back to take the third, the fourth was never in doubt.

"I was a little nervous at the start, and she played really well. We train together and met in the U13 final and U15 semis here, and it's always close between us."

"My first final in my last BJO and I'm playing my best friend, I'm so happy!

I'm just so happy to make a final at last, the best I managed before was fourth. And to be playing my best friend in the final, I'm really looking forward to it I just hope it's a good match."

"I'm really pleased to beat him for the first time, especially after being two-nil up in last year's U17 final. Now I'm playing Youssef in a repeat of our World semi-final, I hope we can play as good a match as that one was."

"He's had some great wins and I never even saw him play before," said Soliman. "I needed to play at a fast pace against him, but at the end I just had to keep the ball deep, I'm really happy to get through that in three games."

Mon 4th, Day THREE

Quarter-finals day, plenty of Egyptian Action in all age groups, as ever!

Let's start with the Girls U13, where Egypt is taking 3 out of 4 seats in the semis! There will be an Egyptian in the final, no need for Crystal Ball for this one, as Nour Aboulmakarim will play compatriot Habiba Nader in the first semi, while Sana Mahmoud will play [9/16] Katie Maliff from England, who created the upset today, beating [3/4] Lucie Stefanoni (Usa) 3/0!

The BU13, "only" one Egyptian out of 4, as Ahmed Ali bowed logically to local favourite and seed 1, Sam Todd, 3/0. As for the other match, unfortunately, two Egyptians were playing each other, and it's the lesser ranked that prevailed, [9/16] Kareem El Torkey beating [3/4] Youssef Ezzo in three very close games indeed. Kareem now played Sam...

In the GU15, one Egyptian in each semi, with a little disapointment, when [3/4] Farida Mohamed lost to [5/8] Marina Stefanoni (Usa) but in superb match, 3/1, where Farida fought every point. [1] Jana Shiha will therefore play the American, while [3/4] Nouran Yousef, who despatched her Indian opponent quickly, will play Malaysian [2] Aifa Azman.

'Carton plein' for the BU15, 'full basket' you would say, with 4 out of 4 for Egypt, annnnd the same for the GU17 and let's make it for the BU17 as well!!! Elhamdoulillah indeed....

The "Big" ones now, with the GU19 first of all, where Zeina Mickawy came very close to a biig upset, taking  home favourite and #2 Georgina Kennedy to 5, losing only 11/7 in the decider. Hard luck, but you truly did your best, and you can be proud Zeina. Gina will tomorrow meet with Nadine, while Nouran will face Mayar.

As for the U19 boys, that was close from CloseShave dear Karim Desouky, you pushed so hard, Mabrouk, you didn't win today, but isA next time, come on, 12/10 in the 5th, that's a flip of a coin, you nearly ousted the #2! So it's Eain Yow Ng that will play again Saadeldin tomorrow, while Yousssef takes on English [9/16] Kyle Finch - not the Englishman that was expected in the semis, as Kyle beat compatriot Patrick Rooney 3-1!
