Temple-Murray claims first title
Paul Houghton reports, photos from Alan Perry

Top seed Victoria Temple Murray started out well, took the first game then seemed to lose concentration as Chloe Pearson put her under pressure. Pearson was 7-10 down in the second and showed great character as she took the next four points and the game to level at 1-1.

Pearson came out firing in the third to take a 2-1 lead, and the fourth game was a battle, it could have gone either way at the tie break but Temple Murray took it, taking our first final of the day to a decider.

The fifth and final game wasn't any easier to call - Temple-Murray took a five point lead early on only for Pearson to level the scores, a point each rally took it to 9-all. Temple-Murray took the next two points to win the match 11-9 and the title of National Champion ...

Holland dashes home hopes

A very competitive match between the top two seeds - Holland the recent BJO finalist and Sidaway the local favourite - with hardly any unforced errors or tins hit throughout the match. Sidaway matched Holland in the first up to 9-9, a stroke was awarded to Holland to give him game ball who then went on to take the lead.

Holland came out firing in the second, quickly into a 4-0 lead and piling the pressure on Sidaway. Sidaway managed to win a few rallies but couldn’t keep up as Holland extended his lead to 10-3, then took the game two rallies later 11-5.

The third was more closer again. Sidaway battled hard, determined to keep with Holland as they matched each other up to 7-7. From then on Holland switched up a gear, giving nothing away and frustrating Sidaway as he made it 11-7 and adding the Boys Under 15 title to his name.

Perry in Command

Sarah Jane Perry has looked unstoppable all tournament, only dropping one game on her run through to the final. Kinberley Hay fought well in each game but did not have an answer to Perry who dominated this final.

Graham wins a thriller

This final was very well contested. Both players were scarily quick around the court and retrieved what seemed certain winners throughout the match.

The first was close, the second not so. Graham looked to be certain for a 3-0 victory, but Hywel stuck in and battled in the third saving a match ball and taking the tie breaker. Robinson kept the pressure up and powered to an 11-8 in the fourth.

As you can imagine the last game was tense, with neither player wanting to lose a cheap point. Yet another tie breaker, this time Graham the victor, winning the match and the Boys Under 19 Don Sanderson Trophy.

GU15

[1] Victoria Temple-Murray bt [3/4] Brogan Lane
              11/8, 11/5, 11/7 (20m)
[3/4] Chloe Pearson bt [2] Hannah Williams
              11/8, 3/11, 13/11, 8/11, 11/4 (32m)

Chloe Pearson (Warwickshire) came up against the number two seed Hannah Williams (Wales) in this afternoon's SF, and it proved to be quite a battle. At 2-2 it was anyone's guess who would make it through to the Final, Pearson prevailed and took the match 3-2 in 32 minutes to book a date with top seed Victoria Temple-Murray.

BU15

[1] Oliver Holland bt [3/4] Taminda Gata-Aura
                 11/1, 11/7, 11/5 (17m)
[2] Matthew Sidaway bt [Q] Jack McElvenny
                 11/7, 11/7, 13/11 (34m)

Jack McElvenney (Warwickshire) couldn't keep his amazing run going this afternoon as he came up against Manchester's own Matthew Sidaway (Lancs) in the second semi-final. McElvenney didn't make it easy for Sidaway and gave him some trouble but Sidaway was too strong with the advantage of training on the all glass court in the Manchester Academy. He will need to take that advantage through to the final as well as local support as he plays in form Oliver Holland (Notts).

GU19

[1] Sarah-Jane Perry bt [3/4] Millie Tomlinson
              11/4, 11/7, 11/4 (20m)
[2] Kimberley Hay bt [3/4] Natalie Pritchard
             13/11, 17/15, 16/14 (33m)

The second Semi Final of the GU19 saw Natalie Pritchard (Wales) take on Kimberley Hay (Numb) in what turned out to be the most contested 3-0 match of the tournament. Fantastic squash and determination from both players, Hay being the victor with the scoreline 13-11, 17-15, 16-14 in 35 minutes. Hay now goes into the final to face top seed Sarah Jane Perry.

BU19

[5/8] Hywel Robinson bt [5/8] Ben Coleman
                 8/11, 11/6, 11/3, 11/9 (63m)
[3/4] Anthony Graham bt [2] Chris Fuller
                 11/8, 6/11, 11/7, 7/11, 12/10 (98m)

The first Semi Final of the day was fought out between two 5/8 seeds
Hywel Robinson (Wales) and Ben Coleman (Essex). This battle went just over the hour mark with some compelling rallies. After going a game down, Robinson appeared to get stronger and kept his composure as tensions ran high. He pulled away and didn't look back, taking the match 3-1 and moving into the final.

The second Semi saw Anthony Graham (Glos) take on Chris Fuller (Northants). Graham took a 2-1 lead only for Fuller to level 2-2. Graham then found himself at 10-8 match ball, Fuller determined, saved those to take it to extra points. Graham stayed strong and took the game 12-10 in what turned out to be the longest match of the tournament - 98 Minutes!

He now faces another 5/8* Hywel Robinson (Wales) in the Semi Final after he beat Ky Hibberd 3-1. The other Semi Final will see 2* Chris Fuller (Northants) take on 3/4 * Anthony Graham (Glos), both winning their Quarter Final 3-0 with ease.

This draw is still running to the seeding order. With the Semi final line up having the top 4 seeds involved. 1* Sarah Jane Perry (Warks) eased her way into the next round with a convincing 3-0 in 17minutes against 5/8* Katherine Quarterman. She faces 3/4* Millie Tomlinson (Derby) who beat 5/8* Julianne Courtice (Glos) in 4.

The other Semi pits the number 2 seed Kimberley Hay (Numb) against 3/4* Natalie Pritchard (Wales). Hay came through a tough 5 setter with 5/8 * Harriet Ingham (Surrey) with Pritchard having a slightly easier QF beating 5/8* Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) 3-0.

BU15

1* Oliver Holland (Notts) didn't waste any time booking his semi final appearance, a 3-0 win in 15 minutes put an end to Qualifier Harry Taylors dream run. 3/4* Taminder Gata-Aura (Yorkshire) also made his way into the SF with a 3-0 win, slightly more contested and with the first two games going to a tie break. Gata Aura proving too strong for his opponent 9/16* Hamish Falconer (Lincs).

Holland has just played Gata Aura in the first SF. Holland is not wasting any time in this tournament and looking superior to the rest of the field as he beat Gata Aura 3-0 in 17 minutes. Holland now awaits the winner of the later semi final. Qualifier Jack McElvenney (Warks) faces 2* Matthew Sidaway (Lancs) as they earlier beat Cameron Weston and Richie Fallows respectively.

Day Two at Sportcity
Paul Houghton reports, photos from Alan Perry

GU15

No surprises in this draw. All seeds are through to the quarters bar one, 9/16 Lucy Beecroft (Northumbria) beating 5/8 Hannah Measures (Surrey) in the only five game match of the GU15 second Round.

BU15

A couple of notable results in this draw. Qualifier Lyell Fuller (Devon) defeated 3/4 Jordan Davies (Wales) 3/2 in 41minutes to book his place in the last sixteen. He now faces Jack McElvenney (Warwickshire) a fellow qualifier who came through to the second round after beating 9/16 Brian Harvey (Warwickshire) also 3/2 in 45minutes.

Another Qualifier, Harry Taylor (Norfolk) has made his way into the Quarter Finals. He was drawn against Alex Noakes (Oxfordshire) in the first round and won with ease, 3-0 in 17 minutes only dropping four points along the way. He then found himself 20 up against 5/8 Alex Pendleton (Wales). Pendleton unfortunately injured himself and retired. Taylor now faces the toughest challenge as he meets top seed Oliver Holland (Nottinghamshire) in the Quarters.

The biggest upset of the day saw Devon qualifier Lyell Fuller oust 3/4 seed Jordan Davies 16/14 in the fifth in the first round. The effort told as Fuller went out to fellow qualifier Jack McElvenny in the next round.

GU19

Business as usual in the GU19. Again, all seeds bar one making it through to the second round. Emma Wardle (Surrey) caused the only upset as she defeated 9/16 Jemma Ockwell (Herts) 3-0 in 20 minutes. The Quarters have just started, the first match was a battle between top seed Sarah Jane Perry (Warwickshire) and 9/16 Emily Whitlock (Cheshire). Three games went to extra points, two of them in Sarah Jane's favour as she won 3-1 in 36 minutes.

The second round saw no further upsets, so all the quarters are as per seeding.

BU19

This draw gave us the longest match of the tournament so far. Morgan Hibberd (Lancashire) who came through qualifying causing the biggest upset as he beat 3/4 Adam Murrills (Cheshire) 12/10, 14/16, 18/16, 11/6 in 73minutes! He now moves into the second round and faces his brother Ky!

Declan James (Nottinghamshire) also took longer than an hour as he defeated 9/16 Ben Rodgers (Devon). A 3-1 win in 67 minutes, Declan now faces 5/8 James Earles (Yorkshire) in the next round.

Ky was the winner of the battle of the Hibbards, and faces 5/8 seed Hywel Robinson for a place in the semis, the other quarters all as per the seedings.
