The Northern
Girls U13


There have been no upsets at the Northern in the Girls U13 with all seeds through to the second round, all winning 3-0.

(Essex) 9/16 seed registered a good win against 5/8 seed Amy Jones (Buckinghamshire) 3-2 in 31 minutes as Elin Harlow the welsh No 1 seed sailed through to the quarters beating Jade Rothman (Glos) 9/16 seed 3-0, 11/4, 11/2, 11/2.

Ten year old and 5/8 seed Elise Lazarus (Essex) Survive a spirited fight back from Florie Smith (Glos) to win 3-2 in Round 2 in a 40 minute nail biter.

Boys U13

Top Seed Harry Falconer (Lincs) made his way into the second round with no trouble winning 11/6, 11/6, 11/4. In the bottom half of the draw two 9/16 seeds were beaten, first Alex Lane (Glos) lost to Charlie Cowie (Lancs) 3-0 and (D+C) Oliver Walls dispatched 9/16 Fraser Linning (Essex) 3-1.

All other seeds won comfortably to make their way into Round two. The start of Round two saw an early exit from the main draw for Kyle Finch 5/8 seed from Hampshire beaten 3-0 by 9/16 seed Charlie Lee (Surrey).

3/ 4 seed Curtis Malik (Sussex) lost a thrilling 5 setter against Ben Turmel (Suffolk) 9/16 in the second round 11/9, 8/11, 11/8, 6/11, 11/7 in 36 minutes .

Girls U15

Kace Bartley (Surrey) caused a major upset in the Girls U15 beating Hannah Daly (Herefordshire) 9/16 Seed 3-0 in 13 Minutes, all other seeds had comfortable matches and cruised through to the second round.

In the second round the 5/8 seeds tumbled in the top half of the draw, Jenny Haley (Wales) lost to 9/16 Jessica Winder (Cumbria) and Jessica Davies (Cheshire) lost to Georgina Kennedy (Kent) 9/16 seed 3-0.

Boys U15

Harry Falconer’s Brother Hamish, top seed in the Boys U15 had a straightforward win against Jack Bearpark to make it through. James Peach 3/ 4 Seed also made his way through to the second Round after dropping the first game in his match with Dan Wareing. Peach fought back and took a 3-1 win. The game of the early rounds was Louis Penkett (Glos) beating Bradley Maters (Kent) 9/16 seed 3-2 in 45 Minutes.

9/16 seed Patrick Rooney (Merseyside) will play 5/8 seed Andrew Taylor (Middlesex) in the next round but not in the main draw as expected both will be playing one another in the plate to stay in the competition. Ben Windle (Surrey) beat Rooney 3-0 and Callum Davidson (Wales) beat Taylor 3-2. After losing the first two games to a total of five points Davidson clawed back to clinch the win and carry through in the main draw.

The longest match in Round 1 at 50 minutes was qualifier Charlie Gamble (Somerset), beating Tom Kirby (Hampshire).

Brothers Harry and Hamish Falconer have breezed through to Saturday and are still in strong contention to take both the U13 & U15 Boys titles.

Girls U17


Number 1 seed Emily Whitlock (Cheshire) has cruised through the first two rounds of the Girls U17 without dropping a game, she moves into the quarters to face 9/16 Alicia Mead (Warwickshire) who knocked out 5/8 seed Georgina Ingham 3-1 in the second round.

Number 2 seed Victoria Temple Murray (Devon) is also making her way through the rounds without dropping a game, she will face 9/16 Anna Kimberley (Essex). Both 3/4 seeds Brogan Lane (Hertfordshire) and Chloe Pearson (Warwickshire) have also made it through to the quarters.

Boys U17

Top seeds are all through in the Boys U17, number 1 Oliver Holland (Nottingham) and 2 Matthew Sidaway (Lancashire) have gone through to the quarters without any trouble as have both 3/4 seeds Taminder Gata Aura (Yorkshire) and Tom Ford (Gloucestershire) although Ford did have the highest scoring game today. His second game in his second round match against Peter Joyce went to a tie breaker and finished 20/18!

Games of the day for this draw have to go to 9/16 Joe Brooke (Oxfordshire) who came back from 0-2 down against last year's BU15 champ 5/8 Richie Fallows (Essex).

Brooke staged an excellent comeback and snatched it 13/11 in the 5th. Longest game of the day goes to 9/16 Jack McElvenney (Warwickshire) who took out 5/8 Scott Young (Gloucestershire) in five to book his place in the quarters.

Girls U19

All top 8 seeds are through to the quarters in the Girls U19 apart from one major upset to the seedings. Unseeded Sophie Lemom (Essex) first beat 9/16 Sarah Dowson (Durham + Cleveland) and then was faced with the 3/4 seed Lucy Townley (Cheshire). First game to Townley, second to Lemom.

The third game was tough and could have gone either way, Lemom taking it 15-13 and steam rolled through into the quarters as she took the fourth 11-5. A 3-1 win will now see her face the 5/8 seed Catherine Finalyson for a place in the Semi Finals.

Boys U19

All top 8 seeds through to the quarters in the Boys U19. 5/8 seed Declan James (Nottinghamshire) took on 9/16 Adam Auckland (Lincolnshire) in the second round.

Auckland, 0-2 down, fought back tremendously well, taking the game into the 5th after an hour of play! James held on took the game 3-2 in 71 minutes! Both boys proving that fitness is a must have in this game.

The rest of the top seeds moved through comfortably, no doubt the quarter finals will not be as easy as the top seeds all clash tomorrow.
