Titleholder Stephen Coppinger (the South African who won last year's edition in October 2006) defended his crown in impressive style without dropping a game in the whole tournament.

In spite of spirited resistance by his welsh opponent Ricky Davies, and after saving three gameballs in the first game he won the final 12/10 11/8 11/5.

The women's challenger event was won by Slovakian Linda Hruzikova, coming from 2-0 down to beat Austrian champion Birgit Coufal 5/9, 6/9, 9/3, 9/1, 9/5 after 62 minutes.

Top seed Aqeel Rehman despatched Robbie Temple to keep home hopes alive in Vienna, taking advantage of a lapse in concentration from the Englishman who got too involved with the referee.

Rehmen meets South African Stephen Coppinger in the semis. Coppinger was in full control of his match against local wild-card Stefan Brauneis.

The second semi will be contested between Ricky Davis and the second Austrian Andreas Fuchs, who took revenge for his loss in last week's Austrian closed championships to beat Jakob Dirnberger in four games.

29-Mar, Round One:
Four Austrians in Vienna Quarters

It was a great day for Austrian squash in Vienna as all four Austrian players made it to the quarterfinals.

Andreas FuchsTop seed Aqeel Rehman found himself from 0/2 down against qualifier Johan Bouquet, but fought back to beat the Frenchman in five games. Wild Card Stefan Brauneis caused an upset by beating Ahmed Khalin in straight games.

Jakob Dirnberger followed by dismissing second seed Friedrich Scheel from Germany. And finally, qualifier Andreas Fuchs made the Austrian day perfect by beating seventh seed Matias Valenzuela after being 1/2 down.

It was an opening day of upsets in Vienna as top seeds for the qualification event Adham Abou Taleb and Thomas Javanaud both fell at the first hurdle

Finals day saw local star Andreas Fuchs, the 28 year-old from Vienna delight the local crowd to win through to the main draw, coming from a game down against English junior Eddie Charlton.
