Reda & Arnold Win KL Titles

Egypt's Mohd Ali Anwar Reda and Malaysia's Delia Arnold claimed the NSC Satellite No3 titles in Malaysia - Reda winning his second PSA trophy in a week and Arnold picking up her maiden WISPA crown at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

Top seed Reda denied local organisers a home double when he beat KL-based Nafzahizam Adnan, the third seed, in the men's final in 40 minutes.

It was the 18-year-old from Cairo's second win over Adnan in a week - though this time 22-year-old Nafzahizam stretched the Egyptian to four games. The triumph marks up Reda's third career PSA Tour title.

Third seed Arnold made her breakthrough in the semi-finals when she upset second seed Margriet Huisman to secure a surprise place in the final. The KL-based Malaysian was too strong for her training partner in the final as she clinched the title without dropping a game throughout the tournament.

"I made too many errors and I just the gave the match away. Had I concentrated on my shots a little better, the outcome would surely have been different."

"I’m happy to have won my first Wispa tour title. This win made up for losing last month’s final.

"The difference this time was that I was more patient and did not simply go for shots which used to contribute to so many errors. But I still have to sharpen my shots for the next tournament."

"I just was not able to play like I did against Annie but I really tried. Delia played a lot of good and tight shots which I found tough to retrieve. But I’m still happy to have made my first professional final."

Harinderpal goes down fighting
Cyrus Poncha reports from KL

After his heroics yesterday, Harinderpal Singh was unable to lift his game, going down to 3rd seed Nafzahizam Adnan from Malaysia in the semi finals of the NSC Satellite #3.

Harinder won the first game comfortably due to the many unforced errors by his opponent but Nafzahizam came back strongly to level the match. The Malaysian then raced to a 10-3 lead in the next game only to win it 11-9. Harinder was patient and waited for the errors but a backhand drop clinched the game for Nafzahizam. Riding with the confidence the Malaysian won the fourth game to seal the match.

In the final Adnan meets top seed Ali Anwar Reda after the Egyptian's 3/1 win over Neil Hitchens.

A home winner is guaranteed in the women's event - Delia Arnold produced an upset against second seed Margriet Huisman while Lim Woke Yah foiled Annie Au's attempt to reach three successive NSC finals.

21-May, Quarters:

Harinderpal reaches semi

Cyrus Poncha reports from KL

Unseeded Harinderpal Singh from the ICL Squash Academy is having a dream run at the US$ 3,000 NSC Satellite #3 being held in Kuala Lumpur.

Today, Harinder defeated the second seed & local favorite Nafiizwan Adnan 11-9, 11-6, 11-9  in 46 minutes. The start saw Harinder keep Nafiizwan to the back of the court but as the game progressed Harinder played some delightful drops and slotted some nicks on both flanks.

Harinder seemed to have the match wrapped up leading 7-2 in the third game, but Nafiizwan patiently clawed his way back to 8-8. A forehand short kill saw Harinder get match ball and a weak drop into the tin by Nafiizwan sealed the match for Harinder.

Harinder will be playing his first PSA tour semi final against third seeded Nafzahizam Adnan, brother of Nafiizwan.

Earlier in the event Harinder defeated 6th seed David Vidal while the other Indians did not make it past the first round.

No repeat for Wee Wern

In the women's event Wee Wern Low, who yesterday delighted the home fans by beating top seed Line Hansen, couldn't put in a repeat performance as she lost to Hong Kong's Annie Au, who now meets another Malaysian, Lim Woke Yah, for a place in the final.

Wee Wern Low beats
top seed Line Hansen

Following hot on the heels of the second edition, the third of the the NSC Satellite series is under way at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, with last week's winners Line Hansen and Ali Anwar Reda top seeds once more. Juniors feature heavily in both draws, getting valuable match practice before next week's Milo All-Star Malaysian Junior Open, which boasts an entry of some 700 juniors.
