Pajares dashes home hopes in Doha

Abdulla Al Tamimi's bid for a second home title in a row fell just short as the Qatari number one's fell to defeat at the hands of Spanish second seed Iker Pajares.

Having saved two match balls in the third game of his semi-final, Tamimi was again behind as Pajares took the first and third games.

The Spaniard had match balls at 10-9 ,11-10 and 12-11, all saved by Tamimi, but at the fourth time of asking Pajares clinched the title.

Top seeds win Christmas Day
thrillers to reach Doha Final

The Qatar Circuit #5 is still waiting for its first upset result after top seeds Abdulla Al Tamimi and Iker Pajares came through Christmad Day five game thrillers at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.

Tamimi found himself two games down to Indis'a Mahesh Mangaonkar, and saved two match balls before taking the third 12/10, going on to clinch his place in a second successive home final.

Pajares took over 100 minutes to get past former world junior champion Karim El Hammamy. The Spaniard fought back after losing the first to take the lead, and almost closed it out in the fourth, but - as is his wont - left it until the business end of the fifth before surging through to the final.

24-Dec, Quarters:
Top seeds through to semis

The top four seeds safely navigated their first three rounds in the latest Qatar Circuit event in Doha, setting up Christmas Day semi-finals at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.

This is the first time that we can remember matches continuing over Christmas with the  final on Boxing Day.
