Amir Kabir Cup 2017
18-22 Dec, Arak, Iran, $5k |
Maleksabet makes it two for Iran Navid
Malejksabet, after upsetting top seed Martin Svec in a
five-game semi-final, claimed his first PSA title - and just the
second for any Iranian player - after beating Iraq's Rasool
Alsultani in straight games - 14/12, 13/11, 11/9 - in a 67
minute final.
An Iranian squash player Ali Roghani, who
was national junior champion and from Arak, passed away two
month ago in car accident, so the tournament was dedicated to
his memory.
Progress in Iran
The Iranian Squash Federation started to host PSA tournaments in
2006, but it was three years ago that they sstarted a long term
development programme.
The aim is to achieve top 100 in both men's and women's
rankings, so the plan is to have at least 5 PSA tournaments in
country plus National and Regional tournaments.
After so many 3rd places in 2016, the programme is now showing
rewards as first Sajad and then Navid Maleksabet in Amir Kabir
2017 won first and second title for Iran. Also last week Alireza
Shameli made 3rd place in Navy cup .
