Final: Top seed Haycocks wins
Emma Falconer reports

This very well attended tournament has seen some thrilling squash in which only the top two seeds made it to the quarter finals with only the number one seed Jaymie Haycocks through to the final against a 9/16 seed Nick Wall.

In the first game Nick leads 4-1 but Jaymie takes charge taking the first 11-6. Nick fights back and takes the second 11-7.

The third was a much closer affair with Nick taking the lead 3-0 but from 3-3 it was nip and tuck but Nick, perhaps feeling the pressure at 9-9 , hit the tin twice in succession to give the game to Jaymie.

Jaymie won the fourth 11-4 taking control of the game and winning the match 3-1.

Jaymie Haycocks thanked the Cleethorpes crowd for their support this week and spoke highly of his young opponent who undoubtedly has a great future ahead of him.

Jaymie was delighted to win his first English PSA title.

Both players were looking sharp in this first game but from 6-6 Nick got the better of Emyr and took it 11-6 . The second started off with a very scrappy few points consisting mainly of tins and strokes to 4-4 .

Emyr was leading 8-7 when Nick hit two tins in succession to give Emyr game ball. Nick saved game ball then Emyr took the game 11-8 following the award of a stroke.

The third game continued in the same fashion with too many tins, strokes and of course some thrilling squash mixed in between with Emyr taking the game 11-5. In the fourth game things got even more tense with some loss of composure by both players resulting in a bitty game which was very close until Nick kicked on from 8-7 to win 11-7 .

The last game was a highly charged affair which was very physical and scrappy at time for both players. First blood to Emyr followed by a tight ball down the wall from Nick to 1-1 .

A stroke in favour of Nick then Emyr hit the tin. Again play continued in a similar vein to 10-9 giving Emyr the first match ball but Nick won the point and it’s a tie break. Nick clinches the fourth game 14-12 on his 3rd match ball winning the longest match of the tournament so far at 88 minutes.
