Chu and Cornes claim Contrex Challence Cups

The Contrex Squash Challenge Cup 2018 wrapped up successfully after seeing Vanessa Chu and Carlos Cornes of Spain crowned the men’s and women’s titles for the first time in Kowloon Cricket Club today.

The women’s final was an all-local affair between Ho Tze Lok and Vanessa Chu, two players displayed a high quality of squash with trading the points in the first two games while Vanessa Chu managed to take the lead at 11-9 and 11-8, In the third, Ho pulled away with a 7-2 lead however, Chu fought back strong to claim the maiden victory in Hong Kong in extra points 13-11.

The third seed, Spanish Carlos Cornes came out as the eventual winner after beating the qualifier Yeung Ho Wai in straight games at 11-3, 11-5 and 11-3 in the men’s final.

Prize Presentation Ceremony was followed after the finals completed. Mr. David Mui MH JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Squash, Mr. Vincent Wan, Chairman of Wan Corporate (Services) Limited, Mr. Sarwar Mohamed, President of Kowloon Cricket Club and Mr. Aaron Yip, Squash Convener of Kowloon Cricket Club, were invited to be the honorable guests to present the trophies to the winners.

Big upsets in the men's as top women go through

After four exciting semi-finals matches, the finalists of Contrex Squash Challenge Cup 2018 are decided.

Two huge upsets were produced in the men’s event, Rui Soares of Portugual bowed out to the seed no.3 Carlos Cornes Ribadas who will meet the unseeded player Yeung Ho Wai. The qualifier carried on his unbeatable run to survive from a dramatic five-setter against the third seed Lau Tsz Kwan in the final.

The top two seeds will feature in the women’s finals whereas Ho Tze Lok and Vanessa Chu both brought the home win in a straight game with ease to meet in the final.

The women’s and men’s finals will start at 3pm tomorrow at Kowloon Cricket Club. Free Admission. Welcome you all come and support your beloved players.

09-Mar, Quarters:
Five locals through to semis in Kowloon

The Contrex Squash Challenge Cup 2018 continues in Kowloon Cricket Club which saw five local favourites secured their place in the semi-finals after the eight quarter finals matches finished today.

The top seeds, Ho Tze Lok and Rui Soares of Portugal took a step further to the finals. Ho saw off the young player local Chan Sin Yuk in a fairly straight game where Soares survived from the close four games.

The only upset occurred in the men’s draw when the qualifier Yeung Ho Wai who kept his giant-killing performance to dispatch the seed four Tang Ming Hong in three intensive game at 12-10, 11-9 and 11-9. There are all local affairs in the bottom half of men’s and women’s draw as Lee Ka Yi will compete again the second seed Vanessa Chu whereas Yeung Ho Wai will meet the second seed Lau Tsz Kwan in the semi-finals.

The semi-finals will continue at 5:30pm tomorrow at Kowloon Cricket Club.

08-Mar, Round One:
Top seeds through to quarters in Kowloon

The opening round of Contrex Squash Challenge Cup 2018 got under way in Kowloon Cricket Club today. The top seeds in both men’s and women’s draw sailed into the quarter finals along with some home wins produced.

Rui Soares of Portugal, the first seed in the men’s event pulled off a great start by winning over the local qualifier Chung Yat Long in a straight game to meet Robert Andrew Garcia from Philippines.

The second seed Lau Tsz Kwan recovered from a game down to see off his fellow Matthew Lai in four games. He will meet another home interests, Chris Lo for the place in the semi-finals.

In the women’s draw, the local favourites, Ho Tze Lok and Vanessa Chu both secured the spots in the top eight after defeating the Korean Min Gyeong and the local qualifier Fung Ching Hei with a comfortable straight win respectively.

Ho Tze Lok will meet the wildcard Chan Sin Yuk who outplayed Liu Kwai Chi in another straight win whereas Vanessa Chu will take on the fifth seed Nadia Pfister of Swiss in the quarters.
