Binnie triumphs in Meadow Mill
The
Meadow Mill Athletic Club Pro Tournament concluded on Saturday
with a final in which Jamaica's Chris Binnie prevailed
over Baltimore based Syed Bukhari of Pakistan, who had surprised
everyone steadily and clinically working through the qualifiers
and main draw.
In front of a packed house, Binnie using his height and reach
was able to match the guile and quickness of Syed in what was an
entertaining and physical match up. This match was the
conclusion of a full week of squash and social activities in
celebration of Meadow Mill Athletic Club’s 25th Anniversary.
The turnout at the Party on the Friday night was a fitting
tribute to Nancy Cushman who over many years of club ownership
and throughout her playing career has been one of the most
inspirational and positive influences in the game. This was
acknowledged by Kevin Klipstein of US Squash, who presented
Nancy with The President’s cup, making Nancy only the second
woman to have won this prestigious award.
Meadow Mill Athletic Club members and Baltimore’s squash
community have been delighted to host the PSA event and look
forward to perhaps doing it again next year!

If last
night’s quarter finals were any indication of what is to come,
then tonight’s semifinals should be an outstanding appetizer to
the Meadow Mill Anniversary Celebration as over 350 people
gather to watch the semi’s and then slide into a party with live
music great restaurant tastings and free flowing beer and wine.
Last night, two of the quarter matches went to five with Aqeel
Rehman (Aus) coming back from 2-0 against Reuben Phillips (Eng)
and Hamza Bukhari (Pak) “squeaking” it out in the fifth over
Leandro Romiglio (Arg). Christophe Binnie (Jam) won comfortably
against Anthony Graham (Eng) and Robertino Pezzota (Arg) won
against Vincent Droesbeke (Fra).
Awards were given out last night at the MSSRA evening by Bob
Everd, on behalf of the MSSRA - An Outstanding Achievement Award
for Peter Heffernan and The W. Stewart Brauns Jr. Award to Jim
Hense and the Presidents Cup was presented by Kevin Klipstein
from US Squash to Nancy Cushman the owner of Meadow Mill
Athletic Club. (Picture shows Nancy Cushman thanking everyone).
More pictures and stories to come from the semis and the finals
and the Party!

Down to the
Quarter in Baltimore
As the Meadow Mill Athletic Club Pro tournament
enters quarter final stage, things are shaping up marvelously
for the culminating stages.
Pictured are Chris Binnie and Aqeel Rehman this morning
preparing for tonight’s matches. Both have been most
complimentary about the tournament and are enjoying the
hospitality of both Meadow Mill Athletic Club and Baltimore.
This tournament has been staged along with the Meadow Mill 25th
Anniversary Celebration which has consisted of a Gold Junior
Tournament and an MSSRA awards evening as well as a party on
Friday night at the semifinals which is sold out with many
disappointed members and squash enthusiasts left clamoring for a
ticket for the Semis and the Party!
Tonight’s awards include An Outstanding Achievement Award for
Peter Heffernan, The W. Stewart Brauns Jr. Award to Jim Hense
and the The Presidents Cup being presented to Nancy Cushman the
owner of Meadow Mill Athletic Club.
