Arab Federation Open2016
28 May / 03 Jun, Tanta, Egypt, $10k

03-Jun, Final:
Essam wins a thriller

Fourth seed Shehab Essam claimed the inaugural Arab Federation Open title in Tanta as he beat Karim El Hammamy, the third seed, in a five-game final.

02-Jun, Semis:
Top seeds beaten in semis

Double upsets in the semi-finals in Tanta  as top seeds Mohamed Reda and Mazen Gamal were beaten by Shehab Essam and Karim El Hammamy.

More to follow ...

01-Jun, Quarters:
Top four through to semis in Tanta

An Egyptian champion was guaranteed as the top four seeds all won their quarter-finals today in Tanta.

A bit of intense encounter apparently between top seed Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda and Jordan Ahmad Alsaraj. Ahmad took the first game 11/8, but had to retire in the 3rd and was not particularly happy about it, as the scoresheet shows. Frustration is most probably the cause of the outburst...

The other three matches went to seedings but were close affairs. Nothing between [4] Shehab Essam & Qualifier Mostafa Montaser, 12/10, 13/11, 12/10, I kid you not!

Not easy either between for #3 Karim El Hammamy against youngster Saadeldin Abouaish, 12/10, 11/7, 11/7. Same difference for the last quarter, Mazen Gamal had to fight hard against Pakistani Asim Khan
11/8, 14/12, 9/11, 11/7.

Semis are all Egyptian, and we will probably have two hard matches, as ever ...

31-May, Round Two:

No Worries for Reda

If #1 Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda had a pretty simple second round against compatriot Omar Bahgat, it was bit more difficult for #2, Mazen Gamal, just back from his victory in 5K Armenia via Hong Kong FC - where he bowed in the quarters. Mazen beat Qualifier Mostafa Asal in four hard fought games. He will be meeting with 19 years old Pakistani Asim Khan who flew back from the Kent Open a few days ago while Reda plays Ahmad Alsaraj from Jordan.

Karim El Hammamy, former World Junior Champion, managed to get rid of Nigerian Adewale Amao in three close games and now plays 18 year old  Qualifier Saadeldin Abouaish who ousted Ahmed Hussein, coming back from 1/0 to take the match 3/1.

Another upset when Qualifier Mostafa Montaser beat WC Karim Magdy in five games, just one minute short of an hour. He faces Shehab Essam, who beat Iraqi Husham Abdulkareem 3/1.
