Heartbreaking loss for
Robin Clarke in Pepsi Whiteoaks Open

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. – Robin Clarke of Ottawa lost a close championship final to top-seed Jan Koukal of the Czech Republic on Friday at the Pepsi Whiteoaks Open men’s professional squash tournament.

Clarke, the tournament’s third-seed, fell 11-6, 10-12, 13-15, 11-8, 11-5 in 58 minutes to Koukal who is ranked 58th in the world. Despite the loss it was a strong tournament for Clarke currently ranked 73rd internationally.

In Thursday’s semifinal, he defeated second-seed and world number-65 Scott Arnold of Australia in another five-game thriller that lasted 85 minutes.

The tournament is a stop on both the Canadian Circuit and the Professional Squash Association tour. The next stop on the Canadian circuit is one of the biggest of the season with the $40,000 National Bank Financial Group International March 1-6 in Montreal.
