Julian Illingworth
claimed a record-equalling ninth US National title with a 3-0 win over Todd Harrity, who had beaten defending champion Chris Gordon in the semis.



Sabrina Sobhy
became the youngest-ever US National Champion as she beat her older sister Amanda - for the first time in tournament play - in an all-Sobhy final. "I'm as shocked as you are," she said afterwards.

Todd & Sabrina spring semi surprises

A pair of upsets in the semi-finals of the US Nationals in Charlottesville, as Todd Harrity came through a five-game thriller to beat defending champion and top seed Chris Gordon, and Sabrina Sobhy took out second seed Latasha Khan, the seven-time champion, in straight games.

Eight-time champion and second seed Julian Illingworth beat Gilly Lane in three to set up a final meeting with Harrity, while the women's final will be an all-Sobhy affair after defending champion and top seed Amanda beat Olivia Blatchford in their semi.

Amanda will be aiming for a third title in a week, having just collected the US College crown and the WSA Granite Open title.

US Nationals head for Virginia

Fifteen 2014 U.S. national champions will be crowned at the McArthur Squash Center this weekend in the facility’s inaugural season at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The 2014 event is the 103rd annual National Singles, the world’s oldest national championship. It includes the U.S. Masters Championships for age-group play from 35+ to 75/80+and the U.S. Closed Championships to determine the best American player of any age in the country.

The National Singles will be played on the facility’s nine international singles courts. The U.S. Closed will offer prize money parity for men and women with a combined prize money purse of $15,000 and will be streamed live throughout the weekend.
