Trinidad & Tobago Nationals 2009
15-17 May |

Favourites reign in
Trinidad and Tobago
Top seeds Colin Ramasra, Rhea Khan and John
Holley added national titles to their collection at the
Trinidad and Tobago National Squash Championships this
weekend.
Ramasra, currently ranked #155 on the PSA, returned home
after competing in the Cayman Open to claim his fourth
national men's title. The Trinidad and Tobago #1 cruised to
the finals without dropping a set but was made to work a bit
harder in the final defeating Ryan Abraham 3-1, 4/11, 11/2,
11/9, 11/9.
Abraham came out firing in the first game while Ramasra was
slow to start and won it 11/4. Ramasra changed his tactics
in the second game and won it comfortably 11/2. The third
and fourth games were closer however Ramasra’s consistency
and fitness made the difference as he was able to win the
critical points and take both games 11/9.
They both received a standing ovation from the very
appreciative Trinidad and Tobago crowd.
"It’s
great to be home in the Caribbean again, I played well in
this event. Had a slow start in the final but was able to
make the necessary adjustments.
"I would like to thank the tournament sponsor Bermudez as
well as all the tournament organisers. It’s beach time now!"
Paul De Vertueil defeated
Kale Wilson in a hard fought five setter 11/7, 10/12, 12/10,
4/11, 11/8 to finish in third place
Rhea Khan continued her dominance in Trinidad and Tobago
squash winning her 15th national squash title.
She defeated surprise finalist Jessica Scott 3-1 11/5, 6/11,
11/5, 11/4. Khan’s experience proved too much for the young
Scott who had a tremendous tournament defeating second seed
Michele Cornilliac as well as fourth seed Karina
Lutchmeesingh on the way to the final.
Michele Cornilliac defeated Ingrid Lloyd 11/6, 11/6, 7/11,
11/2 for third place
John Holley completed a most impressive week in the men's
veterans category as he won the tournament without dropping
a set. Holley was ruthless in the final defeating Roger
Salandy 11/6, 11/5, 11/2
Brian Jackson defeated Duncan Smart 11/5, 11/5, 11/5 for
