Jethro Binns explains the App

Early on during the conception of the Squashskills idea we explored the idea of delivering remote coaching lessons. The concept was such that people who did not have access to a coach would be able to film themselves playing a game or hitting a certain shot and then send it to Squashskills.com for analysis.

We were delighted to receive an email back from an American company called V1 who have been involved with golf analysis software for over 16 years. After a couple of conversations it was decided that there was a great opportunity for Squashskills and V1 to partner and bring their mobile analysis software to the Squash world.

Peter and I have been using the software for the last year under the "Swing School" section of the website. We have been really impressed with the software's ability to break down elements of the game of squash frame by frame allowing us to really understand exactly what is going within a rally or within a person's swing.

The V1 Pro software is available on the iPad and is perfect for coaches as it allows instant capture of a pupils play which can then be analysed right there on screen on the court using the iPad's touch screen technology. Long gone are the days of filming on a camera, uploading to a computer via a lead and then sitting down at a computer screen to try and understand what is happening on court.

Video analysis is such an important element of improving your own game. It can be really difficult understand what is going wrong without actually being able to see yourself making those mistakes. Now with the advances in mobile technology fortunately players of all standards have access to this kind of software that was typically only available to top professional players.

We are delighted to introduce the V1 Sports + App for iPhone.

It's a free app with downloadable content packs that allow players to capture footage of themselves hitting the ball and then compare it to that of the pros. The first content pack that we have made available is the Peter Nicol drive pack. Featuring a number of different drives filmed form different angles players are able to compare their own swing on their own phone to that of one of the greatest players of all time.

I believe that this is going to be a real step forward in the world of squash coaching giving plays the ability to have an instant understanding of what they are or are not doing. I have spent many hours on court repeatedly telling players to try and change something. In their head when they are concentrating on hitting the ball and they often feel that they are doing things differently.

It is often not until you show them footage of their technique that they realise exactly what is actually going on. That "Eureka" moment is often closer than you thought!!

The app is available for iPhone at the App store

There are lots of plans to feature lots of different players including Nick Matthew, John White, David Palmer, Mohammed el Shorbagy and Borja Golan.

We'd love to hear your feedback after you have used the app so as ever please feel free to get in touch.
