April 2010:
Squash-a-Mile! |
Squash fans around the UK lent their support to Sport Relief
by taking part in a one mile shuttle-run last month and the
unofficial recorder holder has been unveiled as Alistair
Gorrie from Aberdeen SRC with an impressive time of 7m
51 seconds.
The Squash-a-Mile! was introduced to offer a sterner test to
the squash fraternity than a basic one mile run. It consists
of a full mile (1.6km) shuttle-run between the front and
back walls of a 9.75 metre squash court and equated to 165
lengths in total!
Many
clubs around the UK arranged events around the concept and
several thousands were raised for Sport Relief.
European Club Champions Aberdeen were particularly
committed raising over £500 and involving over 25 members
who each paid at least £5 for the pleasure of being timed
over the distance. In fact, Gorrie arranged for 8 of them to
‘pace’ him for 20 lengths a time to assist him in his record
attempt!
Selected times that have been sent are listed below:
7m 51 Alistair Gorrie
8m 02 Wes Cardno
