Savcor Finnish Open 2010
21-24 Oct, Mikkeli, Finland, $6k
Third time lucky for Lauren
Poku Salo reports

Top seeded Lauren Selby from England took the Savcor Finnish Open for Ladies title and also her first tour title in Mikkeli on Sunday. This was Selby's third time in the Finnish Open and also her third WISPA tour final.

The final against last year's winner Deon Saffery from Wales was a tight and enjoyable match. Selby, who started as a favourite got a good start to the match took a 9-2 lead in the first, before Saffery got her game going.

She took the next five points, but the game went to Selby 11-8. The second game went from Selby leading 4-1 to Saffery leading 7-4 and then again to Selby 10-8. The game did however go to Saffery 12-10.

The third and fourth games were even, but in the end of the games Selby found that little extra to clinch the games and the match.

Qualifying finals:

Defending Champ to meet top seed
in Mikkeli final

Poku Salo reports

Defending champion Deon Saffery beat unseeded Milja Dorenbos fron the Netherlands in a tight tree games match. Dorenbos started well and took a 7-4 lead in the first. Saffery fought back and took the next five points and had game ball at 10-8. Dolenbos managed to equal the game at 10 all, but further than that she didn't get.

The second game was even, but at 8 all Saffery was again the stronger player and took the game 11-8. In the third game Dorenbos managed to keep the game close to 5 all, but again Saffery found that little extra to take the game and a place in Sunday's final.

The second semi was more or less a onesided affair.

Lauren Selby was a step or two ahead in all respects and did not give Ertlová any possibilities to take charge.

I am looking forward to a close final but I would say that Lauren Selby must be a favourite for the title. Her game looks that much more consistent and mature, at least from the gallery.
