al khaliji PSA Squash Challenger 2012
12-14 Jan, Doha, Qatar
Khan wins al khaliji challenge

Top seed Danish Atlas Khan prevailed in an all-Pakistan final at the Khalifi International complex in Doha to claim the title in the third of the Qatar Challenge series.

Khan and second seed Farhan Zaman both won their morning semi-finals in straight games, leaving them relatively fresh for the final, which saw Khan take a two-game lead which was wiped out by a spirited fightback from Zaman to force a decider.

It was the top seed who ultimately triumphed though, 18/16 after over an hour's play.

The trophies were presented by: Mr. Christiaan de Beer – Group Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Abeer al kalla – The Head of PR and Communications at al Khaliji Bank, and was attended by Mr. Hisham Algosaibi – Secretary General QSF, Mr. Mohammed Al Khulaifi – Board Member QSF

Pakistanis prevail in Doha

Prospects of an all-Pakistani final of the al khaliji PSA challenger in Qatar were enhanced when Adil Maqbool joined his top-seeded compatriots Danish Atlas Khan and Farhan Zaman in the semi-finals after two rounds of play at the Khalifa International complex in Doha.

Top seed Khan was sorely tested though, needing the full five games and a 12/10 in the decider win over Egypt's Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry in an 82-minute quarter-final. He meets another Egyptian in the semis, Fares Dessouky who prevailed over fellow qualifier James Simpson in the quarters.

Second seed Zaman came through his two matches in less than an hour's combined playing time, but Maqbool had to come from two games down against Basem Makram to ensure an all-Pakistani semi-final.

Al Khaliji Bank supports Qatar Circuit

The third Qatar Circuit event features top seeds from Pakistan and a new sponsor ...

“This support from Al Khalij Commercial Bank (QSC) for the international squash tournament, taking place in Qatar for the second time, reflects our commitment in supporting both local and international sports activities, and to encourage the members of the community to get involved in sports as it positively impacts this and the future generation.”

Ms. Abeer Al Kalla
Head of Public Relations and Communications at al khaliji

"We are grateful to alkhaliji bank for their generous support of this event. Alkhaliji PSA squash challenger provides an opportunity to several national team players to improve their world ranking by means of earning world ranking points and to compete against some of the tough squash players in the world."

Mohammed Saleh Al-Khulaifi
