02-Apr-10:
El Gouna To Host New PSA
Super Series Championship In Egypt
Egyptian PSA member Amr Mansi is the inspiration behind a
major new PSA Super Series event which will take place in the
Red Sea resort of El Gouna in October.
Following qualifying in Cairo, the El Gouna International
Open will be staged in El Gouna from 18-24 October, boasting
a $142,500 prize-fund.
The new championship will be the second PSA Super Series 2010
event in Egypt, following the $150,000 Sky Open in Cairo
from 17-22 May.
"This year, the squash world will be introduced to a whole new
concept that will both broaden its exposure and strengthen its
stance in the sports arena," said tournament promoter Amr Mansi,
Managing Director of I Property.
"The El Gouna International 2010 will host the world's top
ranking squash players who will be competing in the exquisite
setting of Egypt's most exclusive Red Sea town, El Gouna. I
Property, along with Orascom Development, the tournament's title
sponsor, promise to create and deliver an exceptional event that
will, without a doubt, leave its mark on the squash landscape."
Lee Beachill, COO of the PSA, added: "We are delighted to be
able to announce the registration of the El Gouna International
as part of our Super Series level of events for 2010. With the
popularity of squash in Egypt rapidly increasing, we feel the
addition of a second major event in the country can only be
positive.
"We would like to congratulate Amr Mansi and his team for
putting together a strong proposal for inclusion on this year’s
Super Series calendar and we are currently in negotiations with
Amr with a view to a multiyear agreement with the PSA.
"We look forward to assisting Amr over the next few months to
help make the El Gouna International as successful as possible."

17-Nov-09:
Super Series gets a revamp
The PSA Super Series 2010, a series of major events throughout
2010 leading to a prestigious season-ending climax in December, will be
the focus of next year's PSA World Tour.
Players competing in the events, which will kick off with the
long-established Tournament of Champions at Grand Central
Terminal in New York in January, will accrue points from each. The top
eight players across the PSA Super Series 2010 will earn the right to
compete in a PSA Super Series Finals play-off championship in
December, the winner of which will be crowned the 2010 PSA Super Series
Champion.
Each Super Series event will carry the same points structure and an
update of the PSA Super Series 2010 points race will be published during
and at the end of each event, giving added impetus to the series and
creating a strong narrative across the year.
All the Super Series 2010 events will be featured in the new live/near
live worldwide TV coverage produced by PSA's new TV partners Total
Sports Asia (PSA goes live on TV, 14-Oct).
"This will provide a long-awaited new stimulus for the expanding PSA
World Tour and give a new focus for our leading events," explained PSA
Chief Executive Alex Gough. "Furthermore, the programme will
reach a climax at the year-end for the first time.
"We are working on finalising the list of events, but due to next year's
busy calendar we need to liaise closely with promoters to organise this.
"We also hope to announce further details of the season-ending event
soon, including a major prize for the winner and a better prize-fund
breakdown to incentivise players in the group matches," Gough added.
