Hany gatecrashes final in Yokohama ...

Semi-finals day of the ProSquash Japan in Yokohama saw three of the top seeds progress to the finals, but Egyptian teenager Salma Hany Ibrahim, fresh from success in the Malaysian Tour Leg 8 last week, beat second seed Liu Tsz-Ling to reach a second successive WSA final.

Her opponent will be local favourite and top seed Misaki Kobayashi, who also faced Hong Kong opposition, beating Tong Tsz-Wing in straight games.

In the men's draw top-seeded Egyptian Omar Abdel Meduid beat Harinderpal Sandhu in straight games, and will meet second seed Leo Au in the final.

Sandhu struggled to cope with Meguid's powerful shots while Au had more left in the tank after long quarter-finals for he and Yuen yesterday.

30-Aug, Quarters:
Kobayashi carries home hopes
into Yokohama quarters ...

Quarter-finals day in Yokohama saw all the locals fall with the exception of women's top seed Misaki Kobayashi.

Kobayashi eased past compatriot Satomi Watanabe to set up a semi-final with Hong Kong's Tong Tsz-Wing, the third seed, while second and fourth seeds Liu Tsz-Ling and Salma Hany Ibrahim meet in the other semi-final.

In the men's draw top seeds Omar Abdel Meguid and Leo Au won in contrasting styles, Meguid despatching James Huang in straight games while Au edged past Jordan's Ahmad Al Saraj 13/11 in the fifth.

Meguid meets Harinderpal Sandhu, who ended the run of local qualifier Yuta Fukui, while Au faces Malaysia's Ivan Yuen, who needed a mammoth 102 minutes to get past third seed Rex Hedrick.

29-Aug, Round One:
Fukui ousts Azan in Yokohama opener

Japanese qualifier Yuta Fukui created a stunning upset in the first round of the ProSquash Japan Open in Yohohama as he beat third seeded Malaysian Muhd Asyraf Azan in four tough games to become the only home survivor in the men's draw.

Fukui's reward is a meeting with India's Harinderpal Sandhu.

Top seeds Omar Abdel Meguid and Leo Au both beat Japanese opposition to progress.

To be noted, a rare quarter-final line-up featuring players from eight different countries....

There was more local success in the women's draw as Satome Watanabe, Chinatsu Matsui and Risa Sugamoto all won their first round matches to join top seed Misaki Kobayashi - who had a bye- in the quarter-finals.

Yokohama welcomes Pro Squash

For its 2013 appearance on the PSA circuit, the Pro Squash tournament has moved Yokohama, Japan’s second biggest city.

Situated on Japan’s eastern coast and just a short distance from Tokyo, Yokohama is a thriving port with an array of tourist attractions and imposing landmarks.

Omar Abdel Meguid, previous winner of the event in 2010 and No.44 in the world, leads this year’s line-up in what is sure to be a thrilling event, while Japan's own Misaki Kobayashi is top seed in the women's event.
