Equinox Orange County Open 2014
09-13 Sep, Irvine, Usa, $10k
13-Sep, Final:
Whitlock takes OC title

In a meeting of the event's top two seeds, it was England's Emily Whitlock who took the Orange County title with a straight-game win over South African Siyoli Waters.

"All seats were full and there was not a spot left to stand, and the crowd were excited to see Emily return and compete in her second Final in a row at the club," said event organiser Jessica Helal.

"This year Emily took the title as winner of the Equinox Orange County Open 2014. With a 3 nil defeat, Siyoli never truly settled in to her game and Emily stormed to victor."

Upon receiving her Orange County designed trophy Emily thanked the audience and said:

"When I saw the tournament was up on the calendar again, I put my name in it straight away as I really like coming here.

"Everyone is really nice and it's a really nice environment to be in. We all seem to get on, I think it's the weather that does it! It puts
everyone in a good mood."

Helal added: "We are proud to be a tour stop for the WSA on the West coast.

"As the newly appointed Program Manager for Equinox Irvine I look forward to increasing our involvement with the professional squash affiliations and facilitating the growth of what is one of America's fastest growing sports."

FROG'S TALK - CYRIELLE AFTER THE QUARTER

Bonjour Fram,

Je me donne à 200% et me sentir suivie m'aide réellement.

11-Sep, Quarters:

The quarter-finals of the Orange County Open at the Equinox club in Irvine saw Great turnout at the club to watch the players for the second night of matches.

Kanzy El Defrawy dominated with a three-nil victory against the number three seed Sarah Cardwell and will now meet top seed Emily Whitlock in the semis after the Englishwoman beat Cyrielle Peltier in straight games.

Siyoli Waters and Tory Temple-Murray had a close match as the two big hitters have a similar game, the South African second seed running out the three-one winner. She'll meet Amanda Landers-Murphy for a place in the final after the Kiwi fourth seed beat Tamika Saxby in straight games.

The evening was finished with a tournament meal in Newport Beach overlooking the marina before the players were shuttled home for a night of rest before the semi-finals.
