Mueller & Wee Wern Win In KL
The latest international squash circuit events in Kuala Lumpur ended
in successes for Nicolas Mueller and Low Wee Wern in the NSC Series
No9 championships at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in the
Malaysian capital.
Swiss star Nicolas Mueller made his breakthrough in the semi-finals
of the men's $10,000 event when he downed second-seeded New
Zealander Campbell Grayson in an hour-long battle.
In the final, the 20-year-old No3 seed from Zurich faced local hero
Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, the fourth seed from KL who had come through
the top half of the draw in which top-seeded Hungarian Mark Krajcsak
was a first round casualty.
Mueller survived another four-game encounter, beating his
23-year-old opponent 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7 in 61 minutes to claim
the sixth Tour title of his career - and his fifth this year!
Low Wee Wern delighted the crowds with domestic success in the
women's $4,000 event. The top seed from Penang triumphed in an
all-Malaysian final against Siti Munirah Jusoh, beating the second
seed from Kuala Terengganu 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 in 26 minutes.
It was third time lucky for the 19-year-old Asian Junior Champion
who was celebrating her third Tour final appearance of the year -
but her first win in 2009. The title triumph marked the third WISPA
title of Low Wee Wern's career to date - all of which have been in
her country's capital.
