King reigns supreme in Hamilton
Joelle King has stamped her authority on the New Zealand
squash scene with a stunning victory at the North Island
Championships in Hamilton.
The 21-year-old has beaten world number 14 Jaclyn Hawkes in
straight games in the final, storming to a comprehensive
11-4, 11-6, 11-3 win. It is King's fifth title in six weeks
on home soil and a continuation of the top form she has been
showing on the WISPA world tour which has resulted in a
career high ranking of 20 on the latest list.
Meanwhile, top seed Campbell Grayson has taken out the men's
title after a gruelling five game battle with second seed
Martin Knight. Just two places separate the two players in
the world rankings and it showed as 40th ranked Grayson
edged home 6-11, 12-10, 13-11, 5-11, 11-8 over 42nd ranked
Knight.

A
dream final at the North Island Squash Championships in
Hamilton tomorrow.
As expected, world number 14 Jaclyn Hawkes will square off
against 20th ranked Joelle King in the women's title
decider.
Both players have navigated their way through the draw
without dropping a game. Hawkes sealed her place in the last
two with an 11-6, 11-5, 11-1 win over Amanda Landers-Murphy
in the semis, while King accounted for Kylie Lindsay 11-8,
11-4, 11-5.
Meanwhile, the men's draw has also gone to plan with the top
four seeds through to the semifinals. Campbell Grayson will
take on younger brother Alex in the last four while Martin
Knight is up against Evan Williams.

A trouble free day for the top
seeds in the opening round at the ASB North Island Squash
Championships in Hamilton.
Jaclyn Hawkes and Joelle King have both had comfortable
straight games victories first up in the women's draw, while
Campbell Grayson and Martin Knight both had byes in the
men's draw, which was rejigged following the withdrawal of
third seed George Crosby.
Hawkes opened her account with an 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 win over
Waikato's Nadine Cull while King was even more convincing in
an 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 victory over Auckland's Georgina
Shelton-Agar.
