England has a strong tradition of team squash and there is a
healthy structure within most clubs and counties.
The National Club Championships (NCC) is a
competition that gives club teams the opportunity to meet
new people and to test themselves against other players and
clubs around the country.
Entries for the NCC have now been opened for the coming
season, the competition is the pinnacle of team squash and a
fantastic opportunity to play new people in a friendly but
competitive environment.
The NCC has been running since 1969, when Lansdowne Squash
Club became the first club to name themselves the national
club champions. Since its inception the NCC has grown and in
addition to the Men and Women it now includes seven other
categories to enter:
Men's Team - 5 players
Women's Team - 5 players
Women’s Over 35 – 3 players
Men’s Over 35 – 5 players
Men’s Over 45 – 3 players
Men’s Over 55 – 3 players
Junior Mixed – 3 boys and 2 girls
Racketball – 5 players
Non County Mixed – 2 men and 2 women
(must not have represented their county at any time)
For many, this competition
is a fun addition to their season however there is an extra
competitive element in the Men’s and Women’s categories as
the winners of the NCC get put forward to compete in the
European Club Championships.
For the first half of the season teams will play 3 or 4
matches in a regionalised group stage where you will play
clubs in or around your region with some games being at home
(based in your club) and some away.
The winners and runners up of these groups will then move
into a knockout stage which culminates at the Finals Weekend
in May. The competition is open to all clubs in England to
enter and we also offer one free entry to all premier
division (or equivalent) county league winners.
