Borja bags Montreal title

Top seed Borja Golan beat Daryl Selby 3-2 in a thrilling climax to the Open de Montreal at the Montreal Arena.

After dropping the first game the Spaniard roared back to take the next two games comfortably, but Selby forced a decider with an extra-points win in the fourth.

Golan regrouped to take the fifth, collecting his 29th PSA title in the process.

"Good match against @DarylSelby to win the Montreal Open. Very happy :)" tweeted Golan.

"Gutted to lose tonight but gave it everything as always. Didn't expect too much coming in so to make another final is a bonus," said Selby.

"Congrats to @golansquash for winning the title. What a great tournament, thanks everyone, see you next year!" concluded the Englishman.

Semis - top two to face off in final

Top seeds Borja Golan and Daryl Selby will meet in the final of the PSA $35k Open de Montreal after the semi-finals at the Montreal Forum (the old Ice Hockey arena, hence the headline!

Golan beat Saurav Ghosal in straight games and was pleased with his performance: " I beat Ghosal 3-0 playing my best squash. Happy!" tweeted the Spanish world #9.

Selby prevailed in an all-English encounter with Adrian Waller, and he too was satisfied with his night's work: "Thought I played well today, was a good hard match with @Adiewaller who played some class rallies in third and fourth. Ice bath time!"

"Onwards to the final against @golansquash who played very well today," added Selby, the world #14, on twitter. "Gonna be tough but will give it everything I have ..."

Quarters in Montreal : Waller joins top three

Unseeded Adrian Waller prevailed in an all-English quarter-final in which he upset fourth seed Chris Simpson to set up an all-English semi-final in Montreal.

Waller will now face second seed Daryl Selby, who survived being two games down to France's Mathieu Castagnet to win a 98-minute marathon.

"Sometimes squash is just about pure grit and determination," tweeted Selby. "Proud of myself for digging very deep to beat Mathieu from 2-0 down."

In the top half of the draw top seed Borja Golan will face Saurav Ghosal for a place in the final.

"Happy to win my match 3-1 today," tweeted Ghosal after his four-game win over Omar Abdel Aziz. "Aziz played some good stuff but thankfully my squash was better than yesterday!"

Round One in Montreal

It was the end of the road for both Canadian hopes in the first round of the Open de Montreal as Shawn Delierre, Dane Sharp and Graeme Schnell all lost out.

All four seeded players made it through to the quarters, with top seeded Spaniard Borja Golan set to meet Scotland's Alan Clyne and Daryl Selby, the second seed, facing Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet, who won the longest match of the day in beating Joe Lee.

Glass court for Montreal
