17-Mar, Final:
Cesar wins all-Salazar Manitoba showdown
Gene Turk reports
The
final of the Manitoba Open, between Mexican twins Cesar and Arturo
Salazar, was a very exciting match, just like it was predicted and
expected from everyone.
The two twins went at it tooth and nail, making such a great match
for the audience.
Both players were going short right off the bat and the fans
witnessed attacking shots and great gets. Those twins have lots of
speed.
They traded back and forth all the way through until three-quarters
of the fourth game.
Arturo showed some fatigue and then half way through the fifth, he
ran out of gas and after 104 minutes Cesar finally ran out the
winner to claim his third PSA title.
He owns the belt until they get a chance to meet again!
Another great Manitoba Open comes to an end.

16-Mar, Semis:
Salazar twins set up Manitoba showdown
Mexican twins Cesar and Arturo Salazar will contest the final
of the Manitoba Open in Winnipeg after semi-final victories against
Chris Gordon, the newly-crowned US National Champion, and Jan
Koukal, the top seed, respectively.
Gene Turk reports ...
Arturo v Koukal
Arturo came out flying. He took the ball quickly, kept the pace high
and attacked short every chance he got. It looked like he was going
to be too strong today for Koukal.
Jan, in typical "kouki" fashion, started clawing back. His counters
became tighter and he got his concentration zoned in. He survived
one match ball and pulled out the 3rd 13-11.
In the fourth, Arturo looked like he was getting a little tired and
Jan was getting stronger. Jan took him out 11-4. The fans were
amazed at the turn of events.
In the fifth, Jan came out shooting too soon, made a few mistakes
and got down 5-0. It was too much of a lead to recover and Arturo
sailed to a 11-5 victory.
Cesar v Gordon
Cesar started fast and thought that he could out pace Chris but it
had no affect on Chris. Chris volleyed everything and made it
impossible for Cesar to gain control of the T but through hard work
and great retrieving, Cesar managed to pull out the first game.
Cesar tried again to take the pace high in the second game but Chris
just continued to cut off Cesar length attempts and put the ball
away.
This game plan was not working for Cesar. In the next two games
Cesar cut the pace in half, started to use a lob to get the ball by
Chris, and then found success with his short game. He took the next
two games 11-2, 11-6 but not without hard work.
It was a good win and he is off to the final to once again play his
twin brother for the trophy. It should prove to be an exciting
match.
