11-May-2010:
Maj. Maniam inducted into
Asian Squash Hall of Fame

CHENNAI: The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) on Saturday felicitated its Consultant Coach Maj. S. Maniam for earning the distinction of being inducted into the Asian Squash Federation's Hall of Fame.

Maj. Maniam is also currently the ASF's Director of Coaching. He, along with the ASF Director of Referees Munir Shah of Singapore, are the first two to be inducted into the Hall of Fame after this was instituted.

Mr N Ramachandran, the current WSF President and also Patron of ASF, was around to honour Maj. Maniam on his latest recognition.

A former National champion of Malaysia, Maj. Maniam was also that country's National coach for 10 years from 1986, a period when a champion talent like Nicol David was unearthed.

He has been the ASF Director of Coaching since 1986 and over the years conducted over 100 level I, level II and level III coaching courses in various parts of Asia.

Maj. Maniam has been associated with Indian squash for over a decade now and he has played a major role in changing the squash scene in the country.

Mr Ramachandran in his appreciation said: “He is a fantastic worker and leaves no stone unturned in his quest for professionalism, both on and off the court.”
