Malaysia Tour 2015 Leg 6
11-14 Aug, Kangar, $5k

-Aug, Finals:
Ivan takes it at home as Liu claims a double

[2] Ivan Yuen (Mas) 3-1 [3] James Huang (Tpe)

             11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 13-11 (57 mins)

[1] Liu Tsz-Ling (Hkg) 3-1 [2] Vanessa Raj (Mas)
                 11-4, 11-8, 2-11, 11-3 (35m)

Number two seed Ivan Yuen came up with a commanding display to down James Huang 3-1 in the final of the Malaysian Tour and capture the title in front of a partisan crowd. Yuen advanced through to the final after a strong performance against compatriot Sanjay Singh Chal in the semi-final while Huang overcame Muhammad Hannan to secure his final berth.

25 year-old Yuen, who hails from Penang, had a great start as he took both opening games. Huang earned a brief reprieve as he clawed a game back, but world #88 Yuen hit back to take the fourth 13-11 and lift the fifth PSA title of his career.

I'm happy to win my first PSA title this year,” said Yuen. “It has been a great week and I hope I can win more titles in the future.

Liu Tsz-Ling captured her second title on this year’s Malaysian Tour after emerging victorious against Vanessa Raj in a battle of the top two seeds.

Tsz-Ling, who beat Tong Tsz-Wing in the first leg of the 2015 tour back in March, claimed her spot in the final after a comfortable 3-0 win over Carmen Lee while Raj eased past Zulhijjah Binti Azan.

Tsz-Ling storming took the first two games but, urged on by her home crowd, Raj managed to halve the deficit in taking the third game to give spectators hope that she could become the first Malaysian to win an event on the tour this year.

It wasn’t to be however as Tsz-Ling wrestled back momentum of the match to claim victory and leave Raj empty-handed after her third final appearance on this year’s Malaysian Tour.

“This is my second title this year in Malaysia after I won the first one in March,” said Tsz-Ling. “I hope to win more titles here in Malaysia in the future and I would love to play here again.”

13-Aug, Semis:
Top seeds through to finals

It will be the top remaining seeds who contest the finals of the Malaysian Tour sixth leg in Kangar after all eased through their semi-finals in half an hour or less.

In the top half of the men's draw Taipei's James Huang took advantage of the absence of top seed Muhd Asyraf Azan (who didn't realise he had two matches to play yesterday) as he beat Muhammad Hanan 11/8, 11/2, 11/3.

He'll face another Malaysian in the final after second seed Ivan Yuen dismissed Malaysia's Sanjay Singh 11/5, 11/5, 11/3.

Women's top seed Liu Tsz-Ling had the toughest match of the day as the Hong Kong player beat compatriot Carmen Lee 11/7, 11/8, 11/9, and in the final she'll meet second seed Vanessa Raj, who beat fellow Malaysian Zulhijah Azan 11/4, 11/5, 11/9.

12-Aug, Round One & Quarters:
Top seed gets the schedule wrong ...

Two rounds of play today in the sixth leg of the Malaysian Tour in Kangar as the semi-finalists were decided.

In the men's draw three of the top four seeds will contest the semi-finals, but top seed Muhd Asyraf Azan was defaulted for not turning up for his quarter-final against Muhammad Hannan - "his sister Zulhijjah Azan said that he thought his match was tomorrow," reported the organisers.

There will stil be three Malaysians in the semis as Muhammad Hannan takes on Taipei's James Huang and Ivan Yuen meets Sanjay Singh.

In the women's draw all eight seeds made it through to the quarters where there were a pair of upset results.

Top seed Liu Tsz-Ling faces Carmen Lee, who ousted third seed Rachel Arnold in straight games, in an all-Hong Kong matchup, while second seed Vanessa Raj meets Zulhijjah Azan, who edged past fourth seed Teh Min Jie in five to guarantee a Malaysian finalist.

11-Aug, Qualifying:

Mohd Farez Izwan came up with a great comeback in the final qualifying round of the Malaysian Tour to eliminate Ong Sai Hung and move into the main draw. The 17-year-old looked like he was up against it after going two games down the Sabah-born World No.336 wrestled back control of the match to battle to a five game victory.

He faces a difficult fixture against number one seed Muhd Asyraf Azan in the opening round of the main draw with his experienced compatriot sure to be the heavy favourite for the encounter.

Top qualifying seed Ranvijay Singh also progressed through to the main draw action but was made to fight for it by Ampandi Muhammad Aqif. Singh won in five to set up a next round clash with Cheuk Yan Tang.

In the Ladies Draw, local player Teh Min Ern stunned top qualifying seed Chan Yiwen to secure an unlikely main draw berth. Ern took the opening game before Yiwen, who was making her 11th appearance on the Malaysian Tour, levelled the match. Ern responded to take a 3-1 victory to move into the next round where she will face Sivasangari Subramaniam.

There was another upset in the day’s final encounter with Wong Heng Wai defeating the second qualifying seed Riffat Khan in a dramatic 3-2 win. The Malaysian will face Teh Min Jie in the main draw.

Another five-game-thriller took place between Ooi Kah Yan and Nural Izzah with the former triumphing at the end of a gruelling clash. She goes on to meet Vanessa Raj who has two runner-up finishes on the Malaysian Tour under her belt.
