Abouelghar Wins Historic PSA Tour Title In
Jordan
Egyptian teenager Mohamed Abouelghar became the youngest winner of a
PSA title this year – and the second youngest this millennium – when
he beat Pakistan's Farzan Rasheed in the final of the Royal
Jordanian Open at the Al Hussein Sport City in the Jordan capital
Amman.
It was a historic climax to the $3,000 Satellite championship, the
first PSA World Tour event to be staged in Jordan.
Abouelghar, the 16-year-old fifth seed from Cairo, reached his first
PSA final without facing a single seeded player. Playing in only the
fourth Tour event of his life, the youngster reached the climax
after fighting back from two games down to beat fellow Egyptian
Moustafa Bayoumy, a qualifier, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 in the
semi-finals.
His opponent in the final was also a qualifier. Farzan Rasheed, a
21-year-old from Punjab, made his breakthrough in the opening round,
dismissing fourth-seeded Spaniard Eduardo Gonzales De Chaves in
straight games.
Rasheed had the upper hand in the opening game of the final – but
Abouelghar battled back to take the match 7-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-7 in
30 minutes to claim his historic maiden Tour success in Amman.

PSA Celebrate World Tour
Breakthrough In Jordan
The Professional Squash Association is celebrating its first PSA
World Tour event in Jordan.
The Royal Jordanian Open Satellite event will take place at the Al
Hussein Sport City in Amman, the capital of Jordan, this week from
24-27 March.
"Our sport is ever expanding and growing," said PSA CEO Alex Gough.
"To be able to add another country to our list is great news.
"In 2009 we had events in 47 countries and we have players from 65
countries. This is surely a sign that squash is a truly global
sport."
Ramzi Tabbalat, President of the Jordan Squash Federation, is also
upbeat about the breakthrough: "We are really excited about this
tournament. Bringing the PSA and world-class players to Amman will
not only re-ignite enthusiasm for the sport but will help us in
increasing the number of players in the country.
"We want this tournament to succeed in every aspect as we prepare
for the next PSA-sanctioned tournament in Amman in May 2010."
