Jena International 2012
13-18 Jun, Kuwait, $15k |
|
Another one for Abdullah
Kuwaiti
number one Abdullah Al Mezayen continued his phenomenal record in
home tournaments as he captured the Jena International title with a
third successive win over Egyptian opposition in the final at the
Qadsia Club.
Having already beaten top seed Ali Anwar Reda in the quarters and
Omar Abdel Meguid in the semis, Abdullah faced third seed Karim
Abdel Gawad in the final and took just over half an hour to complete
a straight-game victory.
The victory takes his PSA title tally to 11, 7 of which have been
claimed at home in Kuwait, and three already this year!

16-Jul, Quarters:
Abdullah avoids Egyptian
clean sweep in Kuwait
Local
favourite Abdullah Al Mezayen beat top seed Ali Anwar Reda in
the quarter-finals of the PSA $15k Jena International in Kuwait's
Qadsia Club to dash Egyptian hopes of a clean sweep of
semi-finalists.
Abdullah,
the talented left-hander who always performs well at home, now meets
Omar Abdel Meguid, who produced an upset of his own in
beating fourth-seeded Pakistani Aamir Atlas Khan in four games.
No upsets in the all-Egyptian bottom half of the draw, but Karim
Abdel Gawad needed a mammoth 87 minutes to overcome Omar Abdel
Aziz in five games to set up a meeting with second seed Marwan El
Shorbagy who eased past Zahed Mohamed in just under half an
hour.

15-Jul, Round One:
Egyptians advance in Kuwait
An Egyptian finalist is already
guaranteed after one round of the PSA $15k Jena International in
Kuwait, with all four quarter-final places in the bottom half of the
draw going to Egyptian players - and with top seed Ali Anwar Reda in
the other half of the draw, an all-Egyptian final is a distinct
possibility.
Qualifying complete in Kuwait
Qualifying finals for the PSA $15k Jena International in Kuwait saw
Egyptian interest in the main draw boosted as Ali Farag and
Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry - the latter heading for the world
junior in Qatar next month - made it eight Egyptians in the last
sixteen.
