Takanori flies home flag in Yokohama

The first round of the Japan Pro #1 event in Yokohama saw seven seeds - including the top two of Chris Gordon and James Snell - progress to the quarter-finals.

Gordon was made to work for over an hour on the extremely hot courts against local qualifier Yuka Fukui while Snell took just half an hour to dismiss his opponent, another Japanese qualifier Maekawa Kosuke.

The only upset of the round saw Japan's undeeded Shimizu Takanori  defeat third seed Anson Kwong in five games.

However Takanori couldn't quite make is past his next opponent, losing out to Korea's sixth seed Nyeon-ho Lee in five games.

Lee meets top seed Gordon for a place in the final while Snell faces fourth seed Cheng Yao Huang of Taipei.
