Dozen up for Joshana as Saurav takes 9th title
Playing true their reputation top seeds Saurav Ghoshal
and Joshana Chinappa annexed the singles crown
respectively in the men’s and women’s section of the 61st
senior national Squash Championship at the Jaipur club
courts.
The World number 20 and top seed here, Ghoshal gave
Mahesh Mangaonkar no chance at all and to post a facile
11-2, 11-1, 11-7 victory in about half an hour to win his
record ninth national title and pocketed prize money of Rs.
One lakh.
The title clash between Saurav and Mahesh began with a long
beautiful rally which raised the hopes that the youngster
would challenge the might of Saurav Ghoshal. But the tide
went the other way with Saurav in full flow it became a one
sided affair. In first two games the world number two opened
a sizable lead to win at 11-2, 11-1 . The third game saw
Mahesh taking the first point and went neck and neck but
Saurav Ghoshal subdued his challenge to win the third game
11-7 to race to his ninth national title.
Praising the youngster the seasoned Indian top seed Ghoshal
said that the match was closer than what the score lines
suggest. “It was not that easy. The scores suggests that it
was one sided affair but Mahesh played quite well and showed
his potential. I was trying out few things but he was also
good,” said the champion.
In the women’s section Joshana had a cake walk
victory over youngster Aprarajita Balmurukan to add
12th national Crown to her kitty which is already full of
achievements at national and international levels.
It was always going to be easy for Joshna as World Number 14
Deepika Pallikal and Anakka had kept away from the
tournament due to personal reasons. Joshna who did not lose
a set in her quest took about 30 minutes to dispose off the
challenge of Aparajita 11-8, 11-9, 11-6. It was Aparajita
who took the initial lead in first two games but Joshna did
not have to exert to post an 11-8, 11-9, and 11-6.
“I was not complacent. I knew that with Dipika not here I
would play against youngsters. Still I don’t take things for
granted. The Girls need more of exposure to come good at
higher levels,” said Joshana.

Saurav & Mahesh to vie for men's title,
Joshna to meet Aparajita in women’s climax
Top seed and world number 20 Saurav Ghoshal will take on
promising Mahesh Mangaonkar in the title clash of the men’s
section while Joshna Chinappa will meet Aparajita in the
summit clash in the women’s section of the 61st National
Senior Squash Championship.
In the semifinal clash of the men’s section Saurav Ghoshal
got the better of fighting Ravi Dixit 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 while
third seed Mahesh Mangaonkar toppled second seed Harinder
Pal Singh 11-2, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9 to set up the title clash.
The women’s section semifinals were one sided affair and top
seed Joshna Chinappa asserted her class by subduing Janet
Vidhi 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 while Aparajita Balamurukan
11-9,11-7,11-3 to sail into finals.
It was a close battle in the first game between Ravi Dixit
and Saurav Ghoshal. The top seed had opened a good lead at
9-6 but the Youngster fought hard to claw to 9-10 but
faltered at crucial point give away the first game at 9-11.
The experience of Saurav Ghoshal then got the better of the
Ravi Dixit as the top seed took the next two games 11-5 and
11-8 respectively.
“Ravi played well and the potential to climb up the ladder.
Perhaps he has learned a good lesson.” Said Ghoshal adding
that he was not complacent. “I was trying out a few things
but I never throw away points even when I am working out
certain things. The credit must be given to the youngster.”
Said the top seed.
On the other hand Ravi said that he had missed out at
crucial juncture. “He is a far better player but still
managed to hang on pretty close in first game. It is the
experience which pulls the top players through. But I have
learnt my lessons.” Said Ravi Dixit who is way down at 133
compared to 20th ranked Saurav Ghoshal in world.

Top seeds sail into quarters in Jaipur
Saurav Ghosal and Joshna
Chinappa posted easy victories to sail into the
quarterfinals of the Indian National Squash championship at
the Jaipur Club Courts.
World No.20 Ghosal hardly broke a sweat against qualifier
Abhishek Agarwal while Chinappa also faced little difficulty
in disposing off Chandni Kumari in their respective men's
and women's pre-quarterfinal matches.
