500+ juniors compete for crowns in Hong Kong’s hot summer

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hong Kong Squash, this year HEAD Hong Kong Junior Squash Open, a World Junior Circuit Tier 2 and Asian Junior Super Series Platinum event, has welcomed a new record of 532 entries from 9 countries including long-haul from England, Asian neighbors Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Chinese Taipei, plus the host Hong Kong China.

With the generous support from the title-sponsor HEAD, sub-venting organization Leisure & Cultural Services Department and drinks sponsor Perrier, 500+ competitors will fight for U19, U17, U15, U13 & U11 division titles, which will be held between 10th to 14th August, 2011.

All preliminary rounds, quarters and semis will take place at Cornwall St. Park Squash & Table Tennis Centre, Kowloon Tong on 10th to 13th. But all finals will be staged at the glass exhibition court of the Hong Kong Squash Centre on 14th, where every year the world’s best senior players compete in the Hong Kong Open.

Last year’s champion Tong Tsz-wing is top seed in the Girls U19 event, along with her compatriot second seed Lee Ka-yi are expected to meet 3/4 seeds Korean top juniors Kim Sang-mi and Choe Yu-ra respectively.

Englishman Oliver Holland and Malaysian Affeeq Abedeen Bin Ismail are top seeds of Boys U19 event while Tom Ford from England and Yoo Jae-Jin from Korea are seeded 3/4.

In the Boys U17 category, top seed Indian’s Kush Kumar and local contender seed two Yeung Ho-wai are in company with 3/4 competitors Tomotaka Endo from Japan and Muhammad Hannan Bin Mohamad Tarmidi from Malaysia.

Local favourite top seed Ho Ka-po, current Asian Junior Champion of the age group will face tough opposition from three Malaysian girls including second seed Vanesssa Raj and 3/4 seeds Sue Ann Yong and Rachel Arnold in the Girls U17 event.

Matches start from 9.00am on Wednesday 10th and is scheduled to finish Sunday 14th afternoon with the Girls U19 final on last at around 4.00pm. Let’s cheer together for all our junior talents!
