08-Nov, Final:
Ford triumphs in Ottawa
Heather Wallace reports photos by Paige Stewart
Tom Ford came out very sharply & focused today in the GoodLife Open
final Ottawa, taking control straight away with his volleys. He took
the first two games easily, with scond seeded Frenchman Geoffrey
Demont looking a little flat.
In
the third game Geoffrey took some risks with some great attacking
shots, forcing Tom into a few errors & took the lead 9-2. Tom clawed
his way back to 7-9, the crowd was urging Geoffrey on as they wanted
to see more great squash. He obliged by winning two incredible
rallies where both players had some amazing pick ups to extend the
rallies, with Geoffrey hitting a tight backhand dropshot to take the
third game.
That
game took a lot out of Geoffrey though, and Tom regained control of
the match in the fourth. Geoffrey hung in , but Tom always had the
lead taking the game 11-8 & the match 3-1 to claim fis fourth career
PSA title.
Geoffrey after the match, "I was disappointed to lose, but at the
same time happy to reach my first $10K final."
An emotional Tom said : "Yesterday [a five game marathon against
Shawn Delierre] took a lot out of me emotionally and I am very happy
to win today."

07-Nov, Semis:
Ford upsets Delierre in Ottawa epic
Heather Wallace reports photos by Paige Stewart
The
first semi-final, between top seeded Canadian #1 Shawn Delierre
- aiming for a fourth Goodlife title - and third seeded Englishman
Tom Ford, was epic in the squash that was played, epic
in the court coverage by both players & epic in the let calls!
The match lasted just shy of two hours with Tom prevailing 11-9 in
the fifth. It was a very intense physical affair on court.
Tom kept his composure & focus throughout the match as games were
traded, but he had the edge with some wonderful short straight shots
& quick cut dying crosscourt volleys that paid off at crucial points
in the match & ending the match with a deft crosscourt nick volley.
After
the match Tom's reaction was " I cannot speak". It took so much
emotionally to win the match!
Tom will face Geoffrey Demont who by contrast had a very
comfortable 3-0 win over Anthony Graham.
Geoffrey, the second seed from France, has looked better & better
each round & today was very sharp, anticipating Anthony's shots &
getting on to & playing the ball very early. He did not let Anthony
get any rhythm in the match.

06-Nov, Quarters:
Delierre still on course for 4th GoodLife Title
Heather Wallace reports photos by Paige Stewart
Top
seed Shawn Delierre in his own words "sneakily pulled it off
tonight" against Sunny Seth in the quarter-finals.
The squash for the crowd was exciting fast paced squash with Shawn
sneaking in some great drop shots from the back of the court to win
big rallies at the tale end of each game.
Shawn prevailed 12-10, 11-9, 15-13 in a great exhibition of squash.
Tom
Ford beat Joe Chapman to set up a meeting with Shawn in the top
half semi final. Tom looked fairly comfortable tonight other than in
the second game where Joe had his chance to take it. Tom won the
match 11-8, 14-12, 11-7.
Geoffrey Demont advanced to the bottom half semi final
looking much sharper than in the first round, controlling the
rallies & finishing well to beat Joe Green 11-3, 11-6, 11-9.
The longest match of the day was Anthony Graham taking out
Lyell Fuller in an entertaining four-game match.
The players traded the first two games which were close both ways,
Lyell the first 12-10, Anthony the second 11-9, but in the third
Anthony upped the tempo putting the pressure on Lyell adding some
great soft flicks to win the game easily 11-4.
Lyell came back in the third game & again it was very close trading
points, with Anthony edging it 12-10 to win the match. final score
was Anthony 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 12-10.
Anthony is the only unseeded player remaining in the draw.
