The third Annual World of Squash Golf Day took place over the
challenging Surrey National Golf Course near Caterham
last week.
It
once again brought together golfers from all walks of squash,
including players, sponsors, administrators, media and fans of
the sport. Travelling from as far a-field as Germany, Wales &
Ireland the competitors were treated to a wonderful days
entertainment.
The hilly course was sculptured out of the Happy Valley
landscape and presents many varied and challenging holes.
However, it was the weather that presented the initial problems
as the stunning early morning sunshine was replaced by monsoon
like rain that left greens resembling ponds and some of the
golfers looking like drowned rats!
However, despite the indoor nature of the sport squash players
are a hardy bunch and were rewarded with their perseverance with
more sunshine for the back 9 holes and then the all important
19th hole refreshment on the terrace overlooking the 18th green.

After dinner was served the prizes were awarded with
Stortford edging the title by jus a point from Colets
with 91 points.
The
individual was won by PCL Whitehall’s Peter Cullen, who
won with a score of 38 points but only after a count-back as
Mrinal Madina, Jon Corke and Dermot Hurford
all finished on the same score but couldn’t match his back 9 of
22 points.
Nearest the Pins were won by young pro Robbie Temple &
last year’s individual champion Greg Wallyn, while Paul
Daniels managed a bit of magic to pick up the ‘Nearest the pin
in Two’ being the only player to achieve the green all day on
the tough 6th hole.
Daryl Selby retained his Longest Drive title with a 293 yard
drive down the 18th.
