Holtrand Gas City ProAm 2015
20-25 Jan, Medicine Hat, Canada, $10k

25-Jan, Final:

Leo Au
  3-2 Muhd Asyraf Azan  11-7, 6-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5 (85m)

Leo prevails in Medicine Hat
Taylor Martin reports

Leo Au
took home the Gas City title today in a heated and difficult match with Muhd Asyraf Azan. Leo was able to keep focused through Azan's unsportsmanlike conduct and scrappy play. Things got pretty physical in the fifth game as bumps turned into shoves. We were very impressed with Leo's character being able to keep a level head through this troublesome match.

Leo was happy to win the tournament as he made it to the final last year and lost to Jan Koukal. Going through a marathon match with Shawn Delierre in the semi finals and then pulling out a win over Azan was a great feat in itself.

I am not sure what else to say about this match as it wasn't the final we had hoped for. It was not a clean squash game by any means and hopefully those in attendance take note that is not how squash is played. There will be a formal code of conduct report made to the PSA regarding Asyraf's conduct once I have had time to discuss with the squash committee. There was repeated incidents throughout the tournament from Azan that should also be taken into account, not just this match.

The Longest Match Ever

the Leo Au / Shawn Delierre semi-final was the longest squash match ... EVER !!!

23-Jan, Quarters:
Top seeds through to semis

As usual we weren't disappointed with the matches here in Medicine Hat. Multiple styles of play and strategies came out during the quarter finals.

The higher seeds of the tournament showed their worth tonight holding in for another round.

The line up for the semi finals looks to have everyone invested in some entertaining squash:

22-Jan, Round One:
Down to the quarters in Medicine Hat
Taylor Martin reports

We had a very tight day to open up the main draw in Medicine Hat, running our matches late into the night with excellent match after match.

The performance from Shahjahan Khan and Mike McCue to start the day set a high bar for the following matches, we had many games that had spectators not wanting to miss a moment.

James Huang weathered the storm of Nick Sachvie as the Canadian almost snuck away with an early win. Graeme Schnell put in a fantastic effort attempting to topple the fourth seed, things didn't quite go his way but everyone was impressed with his talented performance.

Sean Conroy came in with a let it rip attitude against Shawn Delierre, there was nothing left in the bag of tricks after this match.
