A hard fought victory for England in the U15
Paul Beecroft reports
England seeded one and defending champions, took on France,
seeded two, in a repeat of last year's final in Prague.
England looked like getting off to a great start with
Adam Turner, No 1 boy, taking a 2-0 lead although the
games were close. Adam had match ball in third before losing
game and then losing the fourth as Adrien Grondin
pulled level for France.
The fifth was real nail biter but Adam came through to take
the match and put England 1 0 up.
Next up was Lucy Beecroft. The first two games were
really close but Lucy came through 12/10, 15/13. Marion
Andriamifidy took the third 11/6 but the British U15
champion regained composure and closed out the match in the
fourth 11/4 to clinch the title for England.
"I
knew it was going to be tough," said Lucy. "I've played
Marian twice before and beaten her 3/2 both times, the last
time 11/9 in fifth in the 5 Nations about a month ago.
"She is a really gritty player and really fast around court.
I knew I just had to hold my nerve, keep good deep length
and wait for the opportunity to go for the shot. The first
two games were so close but I came through.
"I was so pleased to take the fourth and secure the title
for England. That's my second Euro's in a row and it meant
that we retained the title we won in Prague last year.
Can't wait to get home now for the club champs where the
real action is!!!!! Bring them on!!!!"

Down to the playoffs
After two days of pool action it's down to the
quarter-finals in Germering, and while the top four seeds in
each category are through to the last eight, there were some
unexpected results too.
U17: Portugal pounce on French
In the U17 category favourites England completed a full set
of 3-0 wins and now meet hosts Germany in the quarters.
Second seeds Czech Republic face Hungary, Switzerland play
Israel, while Wales meet Portugal, who produced the only
upset as they beat France to snatch second place in pool C.
U15: Upsets aplenty
The U15 event saw more unexpected results as the Czech
Republic, Scotland and Germany all failed to reach their
expected places in the last eight, and top seeds England and
France were the only teams to win all their matches.
