Max and Joey claim double gold
for Hong Kong
Hong Kong continued their dominance of the East Asian Games
squash championships in Tianjin, China, as Max Lee
and Joey Chan claimed the individual gold medals, as
both faced unexpected opposition in the finals.
Top seed Lee took on Taipei's James Huang, who overcame
second seed Leo Au in a five-game semi-final, but couldn't
repeat the trick in the final as Lee ran out the
straight-games winner.
In the women's final second seed Chan might have expected to
be facing toip-seeded compatriot Annie Au, but China's Li
Dongjin pulled off an upset 3-1 win in the semi-finals to
put the host nation into the medals.
Chan kept the title in Hong Kong hands with a 3-1 win.
Hong Kong, winners of all seven gold medals in the last
edition of the games, also collected two bronze medals.
