Lucie & Jan take Czech titles
Tomas Forter reports
Lucie Fialova won her third title after she beat Olga
Ertlova 3/1 in the final of the 2010 Czech Nationals at the
Obchodni Centrum Chodov, one of Prague's biggest shopping
malls.
Lucie won close first game but Olga levelled and seemed well
in control at 9/5 in the third but Lucie managed to win six
straight points to win the crucial third game 11/9. She
continued with a lot of confidence in the third, got a good
start and never looked back.
Veronika Koukalova took the third place after she beat
Martina Kakosova. Veronika got to 2/0 lead but Martina
fought her way back to 2/2. Neither could get more than one
point lead in the fifth till 7/7. At this point Martina made
a few mistakes and Veronika used this to win it 11/7.
The men's final was totally dominated by Jan Koukal.
His opponent Petr Martin tried hard but was completely
outplayed. Jan played at very high pace and took the ball
too early for Petr to settle in the rallies. Jan was always
in front of Petr and put a lot of pressure on him with his
volleys.
Jan took the first two games 11/2 11/2 and got to 10/0
matchball in the third. Petr saved the whitewash with a
forehand cross court nick only to lose the third 11/2 two
rallies later.
Jan Koukal showed very good form which is a good sign before
the European championships in France next week. A repeat of
last year's final between Lukas Jelinek and Pavel Sladecek
for the third place was not played because Pavel suffered a
small injury yesterday and preferred to rest before the
Europeans.
