Eddie & Melissa take Caboolture titles
English players appeared in
both finals of the Caboolture Open after the morning's semi-finals
as second seeds Eddie Charlton and Victoria Bell moved
one step away from the titles.
Charlton beat Nottingham team-mate Lewis Walters 3-1 to set up a
final meeting with third-seeded Kiwi Evan Williams, and went
on to win that in straight games too to collect a second PSA title
in a week following his Mackay Open success.
Bell beat third seed Larissa Huffer in straight games and faced
retired home favourite Melissa Martin in the final. Age
proved no barrier for the 36-year-ol Martin, who beat fourth-seeded
Dane Sally Skaarenborg in a five-game semi-final - 13/11 in the
fifth - and just a few hours later prevailed in another five-setter
to beat Bell 12/10 in the decider!
10-Nov, Round One & Quarters
Both top seeds crash out
Top seeds Mike Corren and
Christine Nunn were both beaten on the first day on main draw play
at the Caboolture Open.
Corren, with 43 PSA titles to his name, suffered a rare first round
defeat, losing out to fellow Australian Bradley Freeme, who
then lost to Japan's Yuta Fukui in the quarter-finals.
Fukui meets Kiwi third seed Evan Williams for a place in the
final, while Englishmen Eddie Charlton and Lewis Walters will
contest the other semi-final.
In the women's event top seed Nunn was beaten in the quarter-finals
by 36-year-old Melissa Martin, the retired former world #25
playing her first event since last yar's Caboolture.
Martin now meets Danish fourth seed Sally Skaarenborg, with
second seeds Victoria Bell and Larissa Huffer also
meet for a place in the final.
