The biggest event in the
British squash calendar is set to make a return to London
next year with the help of the sport’s supporters.
The British Open has long been the biggest event for
squash in Britain, and England Squash & Racketball - the
sport’s national governing body – are working hard to ensure
the competition returns to prominence in the nation’s
capital.
The tournament is earmarked to take place at the prestigious
O2 Arena in May 2011, which will provide a
fantastic back drop to what will be a first class event.
However, ESR are actively seeking sponsorship and support
from the nation’s squash fans in order to ensure the Open
receives the commercial support necessary to create an event
fitting for such a prestigious competition. The British Open
will also form part of the PSA
World Series, giving players, fans and sponsors an extra
reason to relish the occasion.
CEO of England Squash & Racketball, Nick Rider
believes that the move back to London places the tournament
back on the standing it deserves.
"While
we’ve enjoyed seeing the event held at a number of different
venues across the UK, we feel that the time is right to
bring the British Open back to London.
"It’s a huge event for the sport and deserves to be hosted
on the biggest stage in Britain, but this can only happen
with the support of the squash community.
"We’re asking fans of squash to look at our sponsorship
opportunities and see how supporting the event can create
exposure for their organisation while supporting squash in
Britain.
"We’re working really hard with the PSA to ensure that
squash fans enjoy a high quality event, and are offering a
range of commercial opportunities to potential partners to
support the British Open.
"The event always sells well with fans securing tickets to
see the world’s best players compete against each other, and
we’re confident that the benefits of sponsoring such a high
profile, popular event will continue to draw interest from
commercial partners.”
