Day Two - Semis & Final:
Semi final one saw
Andrew Birks win three fairly even games to progress
to the final over Adam Fuller.
The other semi final was a very scrappy, physical and pretty
ugly match with Rob Downer winning the first easily and
looking in control. The second he seemed to get frustrated
with Phil Nightingale's movement, with Phil winning
it to square it at 1-1. The third and fourth both went to
tie breaks and with an injury break for Downer after a
collision but Phil won both games to win 3-1.
The final was another really close game, with Andrew this
time seemingly frustrated about Phil's lack of movement away
from the ball and Phil blaming Andrew for running into him?
The match went all the way, with Phil suffering cramp
through the last two games but still making it very close
but Andrew eventually winning 11-6 in the fifth to claim
another closed satellite event to go with the Hammersmith
open last month.Day One:
The only upset in the first round was Steve London
beating Jamie Matthews in four games and Obaid Jahan Khan
beating Richard Birks 11-9 in the fifth, but another close
game featured a fifth game tie break between Adam Fuller
and Abid Khan with Adam winning 12-10.
More close matches in the quarter-finals - Rob Downer
beating Steve London in four, Andrew Birks beating
Mike Harris by the same score, and Adam Fuller saving
match ball in the fourth to win 12-10 in the 5th against
Alex Ingham.
The final match of the day also went down to the fifth where
Phil Nightingale seemed to lose concentration at the start
of the decider when asked to change his vest to a t-shirt to
comply with club rules, went 2-9 down to Obaid, only to win
nine points in a row to clinch victory.
