Top seeds reach Barossa finals
Andrew Dent reports
Top seed Rex Hedrick cruised into the semi-finals of the Barossa
Valley Toyota Open in Tanunda with two comfortable wins on Saturday.
Hedrick accounted for Queensland youngster Tom Calvert in the second
round before downing eighth seeded Englishman Reuben Phillips 11-7,
11-5, 11-1.
He was joined in the final four by second seed Mike Corren, fifth
ranked Canadian Matthew Serediak and Egyptian surprise packet Omar
Khaled Khalifa.
The top four women’s seeds all made the semi-finals with only Amanda
Landers-Murphy pushed beyond three games, the Kiwi needing five
games to see off countrywoman Megan Craig.
Melody Francis, Sarah Cardwell and Milou van der Heijden all won in
straight games.
In Sunday's semi-finals the top seeds again triumphed, Hedrick and
Corren both winning in straight games, Francis and Landers-Murphy
both needing four games to progress.
