Kemp Crowned Atlanta Open Champion
England's Jonathan Kemp celebrated his fourth successive PSA World
Tour final appearance in North America in grand style when he
defeated defending champion Eric Galvez in four games to claim the
Atlanta Open crown.
The in-form left-hander from Halifax in Yorkshire reached the final
of the event in its tenth year without dropping a game.
Kemp, currently ranked 31 in the world, was in full control in the
first two games and soon reached match-ball at 10-8 in the third.
But second seed Galvez, who became the first Mexican to win the
title last year, came back with some big winners to take the game
15-13.
But the top-seeded Englishman got off to a good start in the fourth
and Galvez, still feeling the effects of the previous game, was
unable to keep the momentum going.
Kemp conceded just three further points before claiming the match
11-4, 11-5, 13-15, 11-3 after 50 minutes to become the third
Englishman (after Nick Matthew in 2001 and Bradley Ball the
following year) win the Atlanta Open title.
The win marks Kemp's second successive PSA title triumph in the USA,
his third of the year and the eighth of his career.

Atlanta
Eric Galvez is one match away from retaining his title in the
Atlanta Open after beating fellow Mexican Cesar Salazar in the
semi-finals at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta.
The second seed from Puebla, who has not dropped a game in the event
so far, despatched qualifier Salazar to reach the 17th Tour
title of his career - and his third Atlanta final since 2006.
It was disappointing end for 21-year-old Cesar Salazar, who upset
fourth-seeded compatriot Jorge Ferreira to reach the last four -
ahead of his twin brother Arturo Salazar, the third seed who fell in
the quarter-finals.
Galvez, 25, will face favourite Jonathan Kemp in the final after the
28-year-old Englishman defeated Ryan Cuskelly, the sixth seed from
Australia, in the other semi-final.
Kemp, the world No31 from Halifax in Yorkshire, is celebrating his
tenth PSA final appearance - and his second US meeting with Galvez
in two months since beating the world No36 in the semi-finals of the
Pacific Athletic Club Open in California in March.

Mixed success for Salazars
in Atlanta
There were mixed fortunes for Mexican twins Cesar Salazar and Arturo
Salazar in the quarter-finals of the Atlanta Open when only Cesar, a
qualifier, prevailed to make it through to the last four.
The 21-year-old from San Luis Potosi, ranked 91 in the world, needed
only three games to upset compatriot Jorge Ferreira, the
fourth seed, to set up an all-Mexican semi against Eric Galvez, the
defending champion.
The second-seeded world No36 also came through in straight games,
beating Malaysia's fifth seed Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan.
Meanwhile Arturo, who was seeded to reach the semis, crashed out to
Australia's Ryan Cuskelly. World No64 Cuskelly, the New York-based
sixth seed from New South Wales, will now face top seed Jonathan
Kemp after the Englishman cruised to a 3/0 win over Pakistan's No7
seed Shahid Zaman.
13-May, Round One:
Mexicans Excel In Atlanta
Qualifier Cesar Salazar twice came from behind to upset eighth seed
Rafael Alarcon on the opening day of action in the Atlanta Open to
ensure that the quarter-finals will feature four Mexicans.
Cesar, 21, from San Luis Potosi, saved a match-ball in the fourth
game before going on to beat experienced Brazilian Alarcon to
set up a quarter-final meeting with fellow Mexican Jorge Ferreira,
the fourth seed.
It was a double Salazar success - as Cesar's twin brother Arturo
Salazar also prevailed in a five-game marathon, overcoming Egypt's
Amr Mansi.
But, according to tournament promoter Andre Maur - celebrating his
10th staging of the event - the best game of the day was between
Pakistan's former number 14 Shahid Zaman and Welshman Scott
Fitzgerald. "It was a long battle for 60 minutes - and Shahid just
squeezed through in the fifth," said Maur.
