Asian Individual Championships 2013
01-05 May, Islamabad, Pakistan
05-May, Finals:
Aamir and Annie claim Asian Champs

Aamir Atlas Khan became the first Pakistani home winner of the Asian Individual Championship for 14 years when he beat Kuwait's Abdullah Al Mezayen in straight games in the final.

Having claimed 8 championships in previous events, hosts Pakistan were especially keen to regain the title, and sixth-seeded Aamir duly delivered, beating defending champion Nafiizwan Adnan along the way.

"I am very happy and I am sure that after this victory, squash in Pakistan will see better days," he said.

The women's title went to Hong Kong second seed Annie Au, runner-up in 2011 but going one better as she beat top seed Low Wee Wern in a four-game final.

"I concentrated a lot on the game today because we both knew the game plan and style of each other as we have faced each other many times before. It was really a tough match but after the first set I didn't give her any chance to attack me," said the new champion. "

"I really enjoyed while staying here as the people are very hospitable and I am taking back many good memories. Before coming to Pakistan my family was very worried but now the event is over and nothing happened; all is safe," added Annie.
