Good day for the host club
Heba El Torky reports

What a great day for the hosting club as three WSA (Nouran, Zeina, Hana) and two PSA (Zahed, Adel) players from Alexandria Sporting Club have advanced to the semis!

Firstly All the players here want to thank BRQTHRU team, Omar El Sherbini, Yasser Sobhy and Hesham El Torky for their efforts and they hope there'll be more and more tournaments in Egypt and a growing prize money. Also Thanks to the sponsor Pharco Pharmaceuticals.

Hania El Hammamy 3-1 Mena Hamed

Hania's first WSA tournament was at the Women's world open were she produced a big upset when beating Sam Cornett 3.2 before going down to Nouran El Torky. In January she won the BJO u15 title and she's expected to be playing with the u19 Egyptian team this June. Mena just produced a big upset beating the second seed in 3, one of the fair playing juniors out there.

Hania: "Mena is a very dangerous player and it's always tough to play against her. I played very well the first two games, the third game I lost a bit of concentration and she took advantage of that, played well to win it.

"The fourth game, I told my self to concentrate from the first point but it was still very close. I'm happy that I managed to win and be in my first semi final."

Zeina Mickawy 3-0 Nourhan Magdy

Zeina just won the 2nd place Under 17 at the BJO and she's made few upsets there and has been playing really well lately. It was expected to be a close one but unfortunately Nourhan had an injury which might seem that she's not playing her best lately.

Zeina: "I tried not to give her easy points as she plays really good squash and she's tough. The final game, I was up 10.7 I tried to keep it safe which wasn't in my favor, she came back 10.10 then I was finally being able to finish it 12.10."

Hana Basem 3-0 Mayar Hany

This match was a repeat of the BJO u19 where Hana won in 4. Today she won again but in 3. I always play with her during practice and I was surprised to see her front game and how improved she was at it today. She was attacking really well from any lose shot Mayar was throwing in her way.

Nouran El Torky 3-2 Amina Yousry

The final Women's match was very intense and the longest through out the day. My sister Nouran, playing non-scoring during this tournament, played young Nouran's copy Amina Yaser. Amina does really look like Nouran, Nouran was always small in size compared to her age group so does Amina and their eyeglasses!

Amina was up 2.0 were she was playing really good attacking shots from Nouran loose shots and there were so many unforced errors from Nouran. The other three games Nouran showed her experience by playing more solid squash.

Men's quarters

Ali Farag 3 3-0 Shehab Essam

Ali was in control through out the whole match where Shehab made it also easier for Ali with the so many unforced errors from Shehab's racket.

Adel El Zarka 3-2 Yip Tsz Fung

The giant Killer Adel El Zarka, His first tournament in 4 years and he's in the semis! He was studying in England and now working as an engineer at the Petro Chemicals Company.

Adel was up 2.0 and 10.7 then Fung came back in the match from 2.0 down to 2.2 and 6.2 up.

Adel is the player who goes for winners from everywhere around the court and he's good at it but sometimes as with all Egyptians those winners are unforced errors and those make the difference during crucial points. either winner or loss. but in that last game those 3 errors from Fung's racket at 6.2 brought Adel to 5.6 up and made him willing to fight back for the match when he felt that he was so tired.

Zahed Mohamed 3-0 Adil Maqbool

The top seed was very solid and playing with a fast pace from the start. Adil's talent couldn't do much when he tried to slower the pace during the 2nd as there were so many unforced error.

Mohamed ElGawarhy 3-1 Ahmed Shohayeb 1

Mohamed: "Ahmed Shohayeb has beaten few good players during this tournament. I was worried at the beginning and when I got my pace, I started playing really well.

"He is such a talented player. I'm looking forward at tomorrow's match and I hope I'll do my best out there."

19-Feb, Round One:
Upsets aplenty in Alex

There were plenty of upsets in the first round of the main draw of the Pharco Open at Alexandria Sporting Club.

In the men's draw qualifiers Adel El Zarka and Ahmed Shohayeb won through to the quarters with wins over Matias Tuomi and Andrew Wagih, the second seed who retured injured after three games.

In the women's event top seed Nouran El Torky only just survived a five-game battle with Nihal AlaaBayoumi, while second seed Brigit Coufal went out in straight games to qualifier Mena Hamed.
