Meguid dashes home hopes in Islamabad

Egyptian top seed Omar Abdel Meguid denied the hoists a home victory in the PSA $25k CAS International as he beat Aamir Atlas Khan in a five-game final in Islamabad.

The final was a closely contested match which lasted for over an hour and was keenly watched by the spectators.

Aamir Atlas won the first two games easily with the game score 11/6,11/6. Omar Abdel Meguid came back in the match and won the third game with 11/4.

In the fourth game Omar Abdel Meguid kept on his winning spree and managed to win it with 11/5. In the final game Omar Abdel Meguid kept his cool and won the game with the score 13/11.

Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, who is also the President of Pakistan Squash Federation, was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The Chief Guest awarded trophies to the players.

Foreign diplomats, former World Champions Mr. Geoff Hunt, Mr. Qamar Zaman and Jansher Khan along with a large number of squash lovers from all walks of life witnessed the match.

It is heartening to note that International Squash Players from different countries participated in 25 thousand US Dollar prize money tournament. It is a matter of satisfaction that International Squash has returned to Pakistan after a lapse of 7 years.

Aamir wins brotherly battle

Eighth seed Aamir Atlas Khan won a five-game thriller against his brother Danish, the fourth seed, to progress to the final in Islamabad where he will face Egyptian top seed Omar Abdel Meguid, who made it three three-nil wins in a row as he beat young Qatari Abdulla Al Tamimi.

Omar Abdel Meguid, Abdullah Al Tamimi, Danish Atlas and Aamir Atlas made it to the semi finals of Serena Hotels Chief of Air Staff International Squash Championship being played at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad today.

In the first quarter final Omar Abdel Meguid of Egypt brushed aside the qualifier Ammad Farid in straight games. The Egyptian took just 25 minutes to book his place in the semi finals of the championship.

In the second quarter final, which lasted for 81 minutes. Abdullah Al Tamimi of Qatar defeated Farhan Zaman 3-2 It was undoubtedly the best match of the day in which both players presented superb stroke play and had a nail biting finish.

The third quarter final was played between Danish Atlas and Abbas Shoukat. The match was tied with two games each when Abbas Shoukat had to leave the court because of an injury, and Danish Atlas was declared winner.

The last quarter final was played between second seed Nasir Iqbal and Aamir Atlas. Aamir Atlas won the match 3-1.
