5Nations Squash Championships 2009
22-23 May, PoliSquash, Milan
Matthew's Hallamshire Thump whilst the Poli Squash Ladies Team excite!

On a hot sunny weekend in Milan, Hallamshire take the coveted 5Nations Trophy back to the British Isles with a convincing win in the final over David Heath's Vaduz side.

The 5Nations Squash Championships are 8 in a team, each match is 3 games up to 11 with the every point going towards the teams total. Which made the fact that the draw in 1st Round match between Poli Squash Ladies and Beindersheim quite amazing. The Poli Ladies where very vocal from when their very nervous No8 Nadia Piraino walked on court until No2 string Madeline Perry walked off thinking that her 33-12 win over Anders Kroscky was enough to give them a win by one point, instead it drew them 196-196. Beindersheim won on count back of matches won and put them through to play 2008 Champions Vaduz who in the previous round had beaten Squash For 2016 International Team. Hallamshire beat Joyfit and Poli Squash Mens beat The Homeless Team.

The semi finals on the Saturday morning all go to form, Vaduz beat Beindersheim, and Hallamshire beat Poli Squash Mens Team but yet again the most exciting match was the 5-8 play offs. PoliSquash Ladies Vs Squash For 2016 International Team started with the No8's Nadia Piraino and Virgi Cademartori playing the first 3 points when a stray ball struck Nadia Piraino and she was off to hospital for a check up. The 7's went on and the match swung this way and after all 8 matches... blow me side ways if this match ended up in a draw AGAIN 179-179!!! Poli Ladies Team go through on count back of games to play Joyfit that had a comfortable win over the Homeless team in the other play off.

The last matches were scheduled to start at 15.30 after a 2 hour break in which the players ate and enjoyed the wonderful free massages that Tess was giving outside under a very warm Italian sun.

In the meantime the courts were busy with the 1st GRS Cup a team tournament that put together The Lunchtime Poli SquashMembers Team Vs The Evening PoliSquash Members Team , same scoring system as the 5Nations, and after 5 matches.....I dont really have to tell you do I ...?.....it was a draw 140-140!!! A doubles match settled the score with Evening Members coming up trumps!

Squash For 2016 International Team Vs Homeless Team

Hallamshire beat Vaduz in the final with some wonderful squash played by all, Poli Squash battle to a podium win over Beindersheim whilst Squash For 2016 beat The Homeless team.

Following the true form that they showed in the last 2 matches the match to watch was always going to be Poli Ladies Vs Joy Fit Cadorago...and they didn't disappoint and it looked as if was all going to be a draw again.... it came down to the last point of the last match and the Ladies erupted when the won the last point to win by ONE POINT!

The tournament finished with the dinner party at the wonderful Carlsberg, live music by the incredibly talented Massi Franzosi and part of his band Caminada and when Fez The Funk got on to the decks the place was hopping!

David Heath's Vaduz Squash club have different ideas and are back to defend their title they won in 2008 against home side Poli Squash plus Germany represented by Beindersheim will be looking, after three attempts, to celebrate a win always with a young fun team.
