Darwish still top as Egypt dominates
upper echelons
Karim
Darwish maintains his grip on the world number one ranking –
and still heads a trio of fellow Egyptians in the top four
of the Men's World Squash Rankings, according to the new
July list.
The 27-year-old from Cairo moves into his seventh month at
the top of the world, ahead of Frenchman Gregory Gaultier
who holds onto his career-best position of number two.
Ramy Ashour, the 21-year-old World Open champion from Cairo,
is in third place - with former world number one and
three-time world champion Amr Shabana at No4.
Frenchman Thierry Lincou, the highest-ranked player in
action on the PSA World Tour in June, celebrated his return
to the Indian Ocean island of his birth when he won the
Internationaux de la Reunion on Reunion Island, thereby
strengthening his hold on eighth place in the world
rankings.
The highest riser in the new top 20 is Laurens Jan Anjema,
the Dutchman who leaps three places to No15 after reaching
the 3-star Reunion Island event final.
But Egyptian teenager Mohamed El Shorbagy is the only player
to record a career-high ranking in the top 20 – moving up
two places to a best-ever No17.
The Pakistan 'pecking order' also changes in the new list as
Farhan Mehboob, a 20-year-old from Peshawar, overtakes his
cousin Aamir Atlas Khan to claim 18th position – thus
becoming the country's highest-ranked player.

Three years and
counting for Nicol
Nicol
David celebrates three complete years at the top of the
Women's World Squash Rankings.
The 25-year-old Malaysian thus becomes only the third player
in history to achieve such an unbroken run as world number
one - behind New Zealander Susan Devoy (58 months)
and Australian Michelle Martin (44 months) - and the
first since 1996.
David claimed her third World Open title last October and
won her latest WISPA World Tour title at the Seoul Open last
month in South Korea - a triumph which marked the 37th Tour
title of her career, and the 30th in just 37 WISPA event
appearances since October 2005.
While USA star Natalie Grainger retains her second place
position, Dutch number one Natalie Grinham rises to No3,
overtaking her older sister Rachael Grinham, who represents
Australia.
England's Jenny Duncalf also moves upwards - leapfrogging
compatriot Alison Waters to reclaim fifth place in the new
list. The 26-year-old from Harrogate in Yorkshire is
enjoying one of the best runs on the WISPA Tour - and last
month reached the biggest final of her career at the Seoul
Open.
Lower in the rankings, two players mark significant rankings
breakthroughs: England's Sarah Kippax rises to a career-high
world No23 after celebrating an unexpected semi-final berth
in last month's Alexandria Sporting Club Open in Egypt -
while France's Camille Serme leaps a stunning ten places to
a best-ever 24 after winning her fourth title of the year at
the Alexandria Sporting Club Open, as the No8 seed!
